My Testimonials

January 29, 2008
This guy is really good at cultivating gardens, communities and awkward moments. He's not so good at staying in contact with out-of-town friends, however. That's alright because I get all the gossip from the crew. As usual he is the unwitting source of laughs and entertainment even from 500-Miles away.

Great Wall (blog entry) I am so freaking tired! Last night the people in the room next to me raged until 430am. Thank goodness I had my earplugs in and I have been to Burning Man. I got up at 6am to jump on a 3 hour bus to a less visited portion of the Great Wall. I walk... read more

So I arrived into PDX about 3 hours ago. I had some breakfast with Lynn. Now I am at the Albina Press having some Chai. So the whole time I was traveling the people serving food and coffee were really nice and were happy to have customers (i.e. happy to do their job). Ah, welcome back to PDX where the people behind the counter think they are doing you a favor getting you something. I cannot imagine acting that way to my rainwater clients. Has anyone figured out why people in the service ind... read more

I am so freaking tired! Last night the people in the room next to me raged until 430am. Thank goodness I had my earplugs in and I have been to Burning Man. I got up at 6am to jump on a 3 hour bus to a less visited portion of the Great Wall. I walked a total of 6 miles along the Great Wall. The views were stunning, the steps were freaking steep and the sheer size and length of it was impressive. There were several mid 20 year old Canadian ESL teachers who went up there. Several have lived her... read more

I got a late start today. Had breakfast and jumped on my bike. I rode to the Temple of Heaven and walked around more beautiful wooden buildings at the Temple. After walking around the sights, I went around the temple into the forest surrounding it. I saw several older people doing Tai Chi under trees. Other people were playing something similar to hacky sack. I ended up at the Long hall were lots of people (maybe 40) were singing beautifully together. I had heard them about a half a mile aw... read more

I am have to make this brief since I have to get breakfast and get going today. I had an amazing day yesterday. While eating my breakfast a parade of people dressed in crazy costumes marched by the restaurant (they are doing it again right now). I guess it is some festival where I am staying (old small street). Then I rented a bike and rode to the Forbidden City. It is old and huge. Amazing structures made of wood. Just awesome. After about 4 hours walking around I got on my bike and went to... read more

China, China (old bad 80s song)

So here I am at midnight going into the 24th of October, while most of my friends are still stuck in the past on the 23rd of October (its about 9am in Portland).
I am hanging out in a really cool, small little cafe/bar in Beijing China called In. It is the type of bar I wish was on Hawthorne. A WELL lit, coffee shop AND bar which is open most hours with WIFI.
I am staying in a small hotel (I mean small, I will take pics of my room) in a really nice neighb... read more
