Cari is combination of many things. Hard, strong, and powerful, yet delicate, beautiful and graceful. An inspiration to those who can see inside to the wonderful soul within. A giver, a mother, a free spirit and a scientist in MANY aspects. All that and more that this human cannot find words to describe. My teacher, my inspiration and my friend, I will always love you and cherish having you in my life.

I am far from a good spinner, and im comfortable with that, but the other day, I was spinning at a birthday party and someone asked if if I could teach them so they, themselve could have some ease in picking up chicks, I told him " The two most fortunate things that can happen to a spinner are, first, to be Australian and, second, to be named Cari Lee. Those two fortunate things have yet to have occurred to me."

Happy Birthday to an amazing woman! Not many people are lucky enough to feel like their sister's birth was a gift to them. I can't imagine my life, or the world for that matter, without you in it. I still can't call you Cari yet though -- I have years and years of prior programming to overcome :)
Love you baby!!! Thanks.

I am a rodent of the river that plays with fire. I love to explore - new fire toys, new holes in the rapids, new rocks for reptilian rapture. A hunter that always leaves breath in what is being hunted.

This morning was a very interesting river jaunt. It was cool, rainy and sunless as I struggled to put on my stiffened wetsuit from being stored for the winter (and not very well I might add as I pulled several coccoon-type objects stuck on the inside). When I drove over the bridge and looked down I saw stained water and fishermen slaying the white perch and striper fingerlings. As I grunt and pull I'm wondering if the water is above 60 yet - I'm thinking "yeah, it must be". But the fear o...

I just want to thank everyone for helping us during an amazingly difficult period. It is very hard. Not a day goes by that I don't think of those that have been lost. A few days after our tragedy, our community lost beautiful Kaihea. It helps put things in perspective but my heart misses them daily. The good news is that in the midst of the chaos, Montana announced that it is too much death and she will no longer eat meat. I let it ride for a few days just to see and damn if she didn't ...

My dog Morgan has been struggling with arthritis in her spine for almost a year now. Our last resort was prednisone. It reduced the swelling and allowed her to be able to get up and walk. She was getting very snippy at the other dogs and becoming a world record eater of her dog food. I knew it wasn't good for her but she could function. It gave her more time. Last night I came home to find that she had killed my beautiful Isabella. Isabella was the coolest, most beautiful cat ever. She...

Okay, this has got to be my most favorite form of exercise. Friday and Saturday early evening hours were spent gloriously searching for weapons of woe (and the weapons lords were smiling) when I finally discovered one of the many reasons I LOVE to do this...horizontal rock climbing. Yesterday in particular, I was in a chute below the bridge trying to kick up to the "drop zone" (some people drop guns, some people throw them). The current was moving and I was having trouble making any forwar...

It is my favorite number! Maybe it will be my lucky number. A .22 revolver laid at rest in a spot I have explored many times over. One minute there was nothing, the next, there it was in all its beauty. That familiar beat skipping heart pound as you reach, wondering what malicious evil crime had been committed. Wondering if this will be the holy grail...the one that everyone is looking for to send some evil bastard away forever. No. 2, the 9 mm, was restored to working condition and did...

My tree is gone. For five years I have traversed rapids, rock-hopped, and floated to my favorite hole in the river with a submerged tree that housed too many flatheads to count and accommodated huge schools of carp. For five years I have never once not found it there teaming with life until now. It is gone. I frantically searched - running lines and then circle sweeps. The visibility sucked and the river was higher than it should be and there is a little seed of hope. But I know in my h...

We head through the woods down the ravine into the wetlands. The skies are blue, the sun is roasting like summer, yet the vegetation is in its winter state. All the plants that normally shred your exposed legs are lying dead on top of the muck. The cool thing is it gives us a platform to walk on, keeping us from sinking up to our knees. Freak conditions have given us access to an area that could only be enjoyed from the edge. Sable runs around with abandon, dunking herself in the deep ru...

I wonder when he is coming back? I find myself sitting on the edge of the bed like a caged animal, waiting for him to come back. Wonder what mood he is in? Wonder if I am going to get a pat or a backhand? I love him dearly, would give my life for him. I understand the dysfunction, where it comes from. I can explain away all the wrongs and injustices that are directed at me. I start to pace…I have to get out.

It’s happening again…I can feel them. The river is singing its beautiful song and its denizens are hunkered down in the holes for winter…stacked on top of each other like a cuddle puddle. They are waiting out the cold, metabolism so low that movement is purposeful and minimal. Fat reserves are being used while waiting for the crazy spring run of shad and perch. They wait, patiently, calmly and quietly…wait.

A huge thanks to everyone that came to my house to help me bring in the new decade in perfect style - friends and fire until dawn. Couldn't be a much better gift. I am still in awe of the depth of spinning that took place in my front yard. Boston, Delaware, Maryland, D.C., NOVA, Richmond, and Georgia all represented. I love each and every one of you!

I came across this picture and I couldn't help but think about the evolution of the woodie. If you take a moment to get your mind out of the gutter you will see a large bandaid on the underside of my upper left arm and a good size pink area in the middle of the lower right arm. I started learning contact staff one week before this picture was taken and my trusty aluminum staff was burning me to bits. After the second burn I decided to turn to wood. This is a picture of my first (of quite ...

Have you ever had one of those moments of flying by the seat of your pants and saying "why not" to some crazy ass idea? Have you ever noticed that every now and then you get surprised by a very clear moment of "that is why I am here". I had one of those not too long ago. I was presented with the opportunity to spin in Milbrook, NY - no real money, lots of time in a car and lost vacation time at work. Not a whole lot of sensible reasons to go. When we pulled up to the spin location - Wing...

Check it out - the dream team that rocked the virgin festival in Baltimore - from left to right - Sarah, Silver Raven, Meredith, Cari, Denise Denise. Silver Raven made the four cat-like costumes and they were a huge hit with the crowd. We were used as the filler between The Who and the Red Hot Chili Peppers. The whole festival was a great experience.
