living in eventful times

Edible Landscapes and Food Security

   Thu, November 27, 2008 - 5:06 PM
I spent last weekend with my good pal Robin Wheeler at her Edible Landscape farm (and Sustainable Living Arts School) in Roberts Creek (www.ediblelandscapes.ca). I shovelled some fine sheepshit, extracted fennel seeds, and immersed myself in Robin's funny stories, interesting visitors, and wise observations. Robin is one of my sundry personal heroes, who has been sluggin' it out in the back 40 for years, and is now venturing forth to teach and share the knowledge she has gained.

I'm helping Robin now with two projects: one is, editing her small book of wonderful short-short stories. The other is, flogging her newly published book, Food Security for the Faint of Heart (New Society Press www.newsociety.com/bookid/4021). This is a clever, useful book, reassuring and sensible, for both urbanites and the more rurally oriented. Best of all, it is full of Robin's particular dry wit, which makes it fun to read even (and especially) if the subject makes you want to run quickly in the opposite direction -- as I confess, is my own tendency.

And here's the deal: I'll be receiving a load of books from Robin soon, probably within a week. The list price is $16.95 and you can buy it for that price around town, OR EVEN BETTER, order it through me so that Robin gets more money, and I get a small cut too....AND, if you are in the downtown or East End or possibly West End, I'll do a bike courier run and bring it to your home or office! How bout that eh...

ALSO, Robin is available for speaking engagements and permaculture workshops/demos and gardening or food security consultations, she's a great speaker, very entertaining and accessible. So let me know if you have an event coming up, or want to gather a group together, that would like to host her and benefit from her wisdom and wit.

Happy eatin',

Carmen

P.S. Robin's first book, Gardening for the Faint of Heart (www.newsociety.com/bookid/4004) is also fantastic and sells for $19.95 -- here's a SPECIAL DEAL, get both books for 10% off, so $33.21 -- and I'll bring them BOTH to you.
