I'm so frustrated with Tribe being down so much. I'm talking.. down at 1am, down at 10am... etc. I'm thinking of building my own site. I have the technology. Do I really need all the features. Seriously... if I built a new website... that had the profiles, blogs, tribes (groups), photos, event listing... If I had it up and after 3 months I charged $5 or something... with 10,000 users I could just do that 1 website for a living...

Hey everyone... Maybe tribe has grown too big? I can barely get on anymore. I get logged out all the time and my posts keep dying before getting posted (and I loose them). I think it's making me irritable :) Maybe we should move to a new place? I don't think this is a temporary thing. It seems like tribe has been on a decline for months now... Baby Beginner Doumbek has been scheduled for Fri, 8/1 from 3-4pm at Touch the Earth. From how to sit/hold the drum to playing your first 5 rhythms. For absolute beginners. Great for dancers to take too! Begintermediate Doumbek has been scheduled for Sat, 8/2 from 3-4pm at Touch the Earth. Tired of playing the same rhythm forever every night? Let's get Beyond Baladi. Play rhythm combinations, add interesting fills, and embellish what you already know into something more interesting and fun! Doumbek Rock Star: Roll, Pop, Slap, and Snap! has been scheduled for Sun, 8/3 from 3-4pm at Touch the Earth. Learn techniques and new hits to use on your doumbek. These are the rock start tricks! Learn how to incorporate these hits into rhythms and solos to spice up your playing. This workshop is perfect for drummers who know the basics. How to Play a Drum Solo for a Dancer has been scheduled for Mon, 8/4 from 3-4pm at Touch the Earth. The drum solo is the climax of any show. Learn how to put together an interesting solo for a dancer with dynamics, rhythm changes, and riffs. Doumbek Workout has been scheduled for Tues, 8/5 from 3-4pm at Touch the Earth. Be prepared to break a sweat. This class will utilize everything taught up to this point. We will play lots of rhythms with fills, finger rolls, pops, snaps, slaps, etc. This is for intermediate players and up. Hey all! Pete is teaching a beatbox class at Rakkasah this Saturday. It's a super fun class I've taken it myself. Last class, our best beatboxer was Olivia from Zafira! :) Here is the info about the class... you'll have super fun! BEATBOX BASICS with PETE 9.30 am Sat @ Ukranian Cultural Center beatboxing- (vocal percussion) the art of creating beats and rhythms using the human mouth. Learn the basics of beatboxing technique with Pete, the beatboxer from Djinn, including a variety of basic sounds, breath control and breathing techniques, mic technique, basic exercises for practice and stamina and several basic rhythms. The end of an era... (maybe)

So last night, we get to figaro and start setting up. The waiters tell us, "this is the last night". Apparently the management sold the place and it's going to become a Mexican restaurant. The show at the Figaro has been going on for about 10 years. It started with I think just Scott and Raquy. Pretty much EVERYONE in New York City has performed there at some point (musicians and dancers too). Scott was pretty shocked. I'd be too. The first time I saw bellydancing in NYC was at Figaro and some of the first times I ever played for dancers was there too. Scott and Raquy were very kind to me and let me play there when I was just starting out. We're going to look in the same neighborhood for a place to play.... I'll keep you all posted... -Carmine

If you remember a couple blogs back... My band Djinn had a bunch of songs featured on "Secrets of the Sistine Chapel" on ABC last Friday at 8pm. The ABC crew (a couple producers, editors and other folks) stopped by Je'Bon last night (our weekly gig). Everyone was super cool and got up to dance! They knew our songs (probably from editing them all last week). We played Jimmy Hafla and they freaked out... and they let us know.. 2.5 Million people saw that TV show the other day. I'm still comprehending the fact that 2.5 Million people (5 million ears) heard my music the other night... I love life. -Carmine

Hey All, I have some tambourines.. well.. almost tambourines... they have missing heads/skins. Some only have 1 set of jingles. I do not believe in throwing instruments away. Maybe one of you wants them to put inside a bass doumbek, or to take the 1 set of jingles off or something. Anyway... i'm willing to put them in a box and send them anywhere for $0. If anyone from Rhode Island wants them.. I'll be there in 2 weeks and you can take all my busted tambourines :) -Carmine
