Caroleeena is amazing. Caroleeena changed my life. With a simple invitation to Transformus she opened up a whole new world to me. I don't mean just the new people I have met and the things I have done (all of that is great too.) I mean she opened me up on the inside. My heart has been stretched and thrown open. She is like the caress of sunshine that gives a seedling the room and strength to grow. I have never felt so free. She simply grants you permission to be yourself and joyously witnesses it. What a beautiful gift.
All the self hatred and shame just evaporates. I don't know how I got so lucky to meet such a beautiful person -inside and out-. Did I mention she is incredibly photogenic and has a laugh that is down right musical.
I am truly grateful to be friends with someone that says beautiful things like this:
"So I want to recognize everyone who has ever had the courage to share their opinion or go out a limb by filming themselves and sharing it with us or had the kindness to leave an encouraging comment or reached out to help a newbie figure something out. Community is made up by community members and I recognize that I am only one member of this wonderful community. It wouldn't exist without every single one of us."
Thank you Caroleeena for being such a beautiful inspiration and acknowledging the courage it takes to step out into the light. I LOVE YOU!

Because of Caroleeena,
me and coffee are ruined for life!
I am no longer satisfied with simple coffee unless it
has Kahlua and Bailies. And when I do get what
I want in my coffee, I always have the most fond
memories of Caroleeena
floating across a field of wild flowers
in a colorful hippie dress…

She’s classy, she’s sassy, she’s fancy, she’s free :)
She’s so fun and such a fine friend to me,
She’ll grace you with her walk,
She’ll grace you with her talk,
She’s an angel in disguise,
So sweet n’ smart n’ wise
She’s a Spanish Southern Belle & Play Extraordinaire-
She can do anything and she’ll do it with flair!
She’ll fire dance and hoop and prance right into your soul
Once you see what you've been missing,
You’ll be begging for more!
A poetess, with finesse, she’s Caroleeeeeena!!!
A true friend, she makes me grin, Caroleeeeena!!!
A sweetie pie, a firefly, she’s Caroleeeeeeena!!!
A giggle gal, my yoga pal, she’s Caroleeeeeena!!!
A blessing maker, a chance taker, she’s Caroleeeeeena!!!
She’s epic cool, she’s a rare jewel, she’s Caroleeeeeeena!!!!

This amazing woman has changed my life. She has empowered me with so many wonderful skills and a truly valuable friendship. I am forever grateful to have her in my life. She is an inspiration, a confidant, an endlessly energetic playmate, and one of my heroes! I admire her courage, generosity, enthusiasm, optimism, activism, and her laugh. The world is a better place with you in it. I look forward to reading your book! I love you, and remember to think about bubbles! ali cat

about me
I embrace conscious evolution. The human is probably the only animal that knows its evolving. This understanding gives us a lot of power. We can consciously evolve.
We must live Consciously.
I am learning all the time and I am willing to periodically embarrass myself in the process of taking on new challenges. I know that our ability to get better at stuff is directly proportional to our ability to tolerate embarrassment. Anything worth doing is worth doing poorly at first.
And just as I am learning, I realize that everyone else is learning also. As I am learning patience with myself, I also practice patience with others. (There is a reason they call it "practice". I can always get better...)
I believe that we should help each other, lift each other up, sing each other's praises and be kind. We need to be proactive with love and light. I think service is where it's at. It not only improves other's lives, it improves the life of the server. Serving is its own reward. Do it with a happy heart. Identify what you love doing and then find a way to do it as a service. I love writing so once a week I write a letter that might make a difference in this world. It might be on behalf of a political prisoner or environmental issue, it might be to encourage someone who is doing good work or it might be to offer a word of compassion to someone who has had a tragedy (like a local elderly man who was badly burned running back into his burning house to try to save his cat. I told him I had a cat too and I couldn't imagine not trying to save him.)
Anyone can turn their hobby into a service. Love chess? Teach someone to play. Love cooking? Make something special for an elderly or lonely neighbor. The key is to get outside of the Self and realize your connection with the world around you. Take responsibility for making the world a better place. If not you, who?
If not me, who?
"Let me fling my life like a flaming firebrand into the gathering darkness of the world." - Albert Schweitzer.
I was hooping at SPARKcon, a local arts festival in Raleigh, and I got asked to improv with this band at the last minute. I didn't have time to think about it or get nervous and I really love this band so I quickly achieved a flow state and really enjoyed the experince. The band is called Funkuponya and this song is called The Garlic. They asked me to spin on a walkway where there had been a fashion show earlier in the evening so I had to be careful not to accidentally step off the sides and ...

My name is Angelo.
I was born in Yonkers
or more correctly
on the way to Yonkers.
My mother
one of more than a hundred
crammed shoulder to shoulder
many sick and dying
in a trailer
filthy and acrid
with urine
and excrement
and misery
gave birth to me
and my sister
as others struggled
to create space,
offer reassuring touches,
not tread on her,
us.
I don't know when my sister
was trampled.
I've little memory of that time
of her
of my mother
and it is only through ...

Sometimes
I crave
a tender touch
lips dancing
like butterfly wings
against my earlobe.
Sometimes
I long
for sanctuary,
for arms to hold me,
eyes to watch over me,
a mouth to whisper sweet nothings
that swell my heart
and steal my breath.
Sometimes
I yearn
for slow simmering romance,
the alchemy
of mutual adoration,
laughter,
passion
and Truth,
for love
as yielding as flesh
as resilient as stone.
Sometimes,
sometimes ...
And tonight
is one of those times....

I'm in Kevin Bacon's new music video. Here's the video. The story is below:
www.youtube.com/watch
Early this year, my friends on Tribe and I were discussing how YouTube has begun either pulling our videos down or taking the sound out of them claiming that we are infringing on the copyright of music companies by playing music we own, dancing to it and sharing our dances with our friends. (I still think it qualifies as "Fair Use" but I won't go there again.) Since the...

The Doorpost Film Project is a new online community of filmmakers who create short films on the topics of Authenticity, Community, Sacrifice, Commitment, Truth, Identity and Hope. They encourage individuals to create art that inspires, encourages, elevates and seeks Truth. They award a $40,000 cash prize in each of these areas and showcase submissions on their site. It's brilliant! The site just started this year but there are already several short films on the site.
I was turned on to Th...

Dorothy, a chimpanzee in her 40's, passed away from congestive heart failure last month at Sanaga-Young Chimpanzee Rescue Center in Camaroon. She had lived there for 9 years. This is her story.
When she was just an infant, a hunter killed Dorothy's mother and she was sold as a mascot to an amusement park in Camaroon. Most people don't realize this but this is a common way to catch animals and sell them to zoos. With hippos, they harpoon the mother while she's in water and then, using a pul...

Terri Kirby Erickson is my favorite poet. I love poetry and I read a lot of it so to proclaim someone my favorite poet is no small declaration. Terri Kirby Erickson is my favorite poet. She lives in Winston-Salem, NC, and I ran across her first collection, Thread Count, at Quail Ridge Books, one of my favorite independent bookstores and the only one I've been to that has a section dedicated just to North Carolina poets. While there to see a guest lecturer a couple of years ago, I picked up he...

Thank you.

We crafted 43 hoops this past week and today we gifted almost every single one to a child with AIDS. There were a few adults with AIDS there also as well as their caregivers and case managers. Most folks got a hoop though some caregivers did not. To their credit they made sure the kids and patients all had one first so there weren't many left over after that. I wish we'd had a few more for them, especially for four women who work in various areas of patient care, which is hard work. I'm going...

Often when we hoopdance, one hand is busy but the other hand is free. This is never more prominent than with lifts. One hand is doing the lifting and the other hand is just hanging there. We've talked about using the hands to do pretty hand and armwork. This idea holds even if it applies to only one hand while the other hand is working.
Here is a list of some of the moves that leave one hand free while the other is occupied:
- Lifts from the front
- Lifts from the back
- Hand hooping t...

World Hoop Day falls on Wednesday, 9-9-9, this year, coincidentally, a Wednesday that we host a Hoop Jam. Yay!!!! World Hoop Day is a service project designed to introduce hoops and hooping to people who may never have experienced hooping before.
In the past, I've done small efforts either here in NC or at an orphanage in Jamaica but this year I want to do a big one ... actually, a big two.
ONE: I have an opportunity to create 40 hoops and gift them to pediatric and adult AIDS patien...

Leaving a rude comment
on my YouTube tutorial
then thanking me
for making it
is like saying, "That dress
makes your ass look fat
but I like the color."
Couching this insult
in, "With all due respect"
is a sure sign
you're about to be unduly
dis-respectful.
Le sigh ...
Opinions
are like assholes --
every body may have one
but I don't need to see it
on YouTube.

A Paris swimming pool has refused to allow a young Muslim woman to swim after she tried to enter the pool wearing a burqini, a full body covering that resembles a wet-suit with built-in hood. Pool staff told her that public swimming pools "forbid swimming while clothed". Ironically she'd probably have been arrested had she tried to swim "un-clothed". On the other hand, had her buttocks been hanging out of a thong, that would probably have been A-OK!
The swimming-while-clothed controversy c...

I've grown used to the weight of them,
acquired in college
with the aid of the pill
I've grown used to the perfume of them,
sweet smelling sweat
mingling in folds of flesh
I've grown used to the mystique of them,
their secret magnetism
pulling men's glances
The song of them
humming against silk blouses
The bold of them
rising to greet the chill breeze
The bliss of them
suckling both child and lover
I've grown used to the...

I support the Miss Landmine Pagent. I'm not usually a "beauty pagent" kinda girl but a beauty pagent that celebrates the strength and beauty of women who have risen above having parts of their body torn away by landmines is a pagent I can get behind. It also raises awareness of these terrible weapons that have been left all over the world.
It is open to women of all ages and includes everyone from very young girls to women in their 50's. The first one in Angola was very successful but the...

Why won't they release the video of the people using his checkcard!?! Also, the picture they use in this news story doesn't look anything like Elias. I mean it's him but shouldn't you use a photo that looks like him?

I like a garden
that reveals itself
in darkness
awakens
when the rest of the world
is sleeping.
While I bask in the glories of the morning
'tis the blooms that bare their breasts
before the moon
that take my breath away.
Moonflowers
revealing themselves
like a lover
seducing
embracing
lunar moths
where other blossoms
beckon bees.
August Lily,
adorning herself
with the scent of
honey, pure and sweet.
Even old-fashioned gardenia
