And it is Spring again. (2013-Apr-05)
The Hillbilly Engineer / Farm Thug and his Pit Bull. (2006)
Yes they do sell one. But do you know what it is yet?
Aum, attired in white and all-pervading, O moon-hued, four-shouldered One with smiling face so pleasing, upon you we meditate for removing all obstacles.
I say this a lot, but what does it mean?
Want to walk with me a while?

I have been here on Tribe.net for over 7 years now so I suppose I should have one really.
I am here to amuse, entertain, share things I find interesting (or extremely lame) and on occasion sometimes even irritate. I wish to learn new things, educate those willing to read about (sometimes very) obscure topics and teach some what I know if I can.
This ‘service’ is provided free of charge, but audience participation is always welcome.
No warranty is either expressed or implied and much of the information seen here comes by way of 3rd parties. Links to their sources and credits are provided whenever possible.
This is supposed to be fun folks so please abide by the properly accepted rules of netiquette.
Now on with the show!
Peace

I think Tribe would fall to pieces if we didn't have such a damn fine Carpenter keeping it all together! There aren't many here that make me THINK, and he gives me a headache! That's a compliment, BTW. He does to this geek brain what a Master would do to this slave body. Best friggin' brain orgasms!
I love this man, gentlemen. He keeps me on track, and constantly reminds me there are many paths to enlightenment.

You feel incredibly special if you can entertain his brain, let alone put a smile on his face...!

Namaste John
It's a Sanskrit word actually and means "I bow to you" the placement of the hands, palms pressed together and depending where you have your hands, at the chest, waist or even on the top of the head when said signifies how much reverence you have for the person you are extending the greeting. (In Johns case it would be appropriate to have your hands on top of your head at the forehead level, which is the highest you can and the most reverent greeting of respect, as my hands are now)
Yesterday I had the privilege of speaking with John via YIM, also yesterday I learned a new word, I try to lean one per day at least and the word yesterday is appropriate for John and that word is inimitable, adj: meaning no equal or rival for excellence or desirability) Somehow the word came to me and just in time for meeting John here so thought I'd share it with everybody here.
I give this man a 10 out of 10 and a 5 star rating. He is hot as fuck to look at, a wonderful mind and kind heart. I love intelligence and he has that in 'spades'. Just a true pleasure to get to know. I feel richer for getting to know him and a better man.
Like all mortal men, John has some serious health problems, not all of us do but John there does and has blogged about it and is very open to discuss it with you. I admire his courage and his honesty with it, was a real eye opener for me. i wish him the very best with it all. I hope the nightmares go away for you John and you can find rest in your sleep
He seems to have an encyclopedic knowledge of his condition and the meds he takes to help him, right down to the size and shape of each Rx. i feel for the man and his struggle and hope he finds the peace he deserves
He's a animal lover and after going thru his profile here and in particular his link to Blue Moon Productions (being Canadian and living in Western Canada was dumbfounded to find this and his obvious love for Western and Northern Canada, its culture, art and wild life). This is a well rounded man. He reaches for the stars and I have no doubt he will snag one for sure and be lifted to the heavens as he should be.
I enjoy his blogs, insight and of course his pix.
So I want to send him a huge thanks for allowing me to be a small part of his cyber life here. He has made, for me, joining tribes worth while.
Namaste John and I hope today is a great day for you. All the very best for you and you ARE in my prayers

Thank you for trusting me. Sharing.
If you ever feel alone, isolated, or questioning your place here in this thing called life...just look at the amazing Testimonials you have and then multiply by a Thousand the lives you have touched and don't even know it.

My Tribe Buddy, John is the strongest man I've never met. But I think we know just how the other feels. Some days, honestly, he's my rock. I think of him and everything he's gone through and I feel humbled and very thankful that such a kind soul, this great-hearted man walks the very same earth as I do, and sometimes - walks with me.
November 20, 2007
I love John because he is a good man. He has a great heart. He feels like an old soul to me (this is a very, very good thing). We haven't met, though when we correspond I feel connected to him. I feel good knowing that he's in the world.

Especially For You!.........From bard
There is a carpenter I know
He is not a Karen or a Richard
He doesn't have the flair for music
Only what he makes of his own
A very sensitive person
That I would love to meet
He is happy, he is sad
But is that really so bad
Honesty, he tells it like it is
I have no qualms with this
I love his clear cut look at life
He leaves nothing to the imagination
He is Friend, Family
He is larger than life
I am proud to say that I know him
But never hate who you are
People like you are too few

I have to say, aside from being one hell of a pig <eg> John is one of the kindest, most considerate, and helpful individuals I know of. He's been very helpful to me in my battle with HIV, despite his own problems, and for that I am truly grateful. He shares his knowledge, and helps with things of which I am unaware. I can always ask him a question, knowing he's there to answer it, and answer it well, as he is well versed on the subject. John, you ROCK! I mean that from the heart, too. Thank you for being my friend!

John's brain gives me a woodie.
July 30, 2006
This is my first ever testimonial! I couldn't think of a better person to give it to!
I met John just a short time ago, two weeks in fact, but his mind and genuine GOOD nature attracted me immediately. I was in the middle of a small crisis myself when I met him, not the place here to explain, but He made me forget what was going on in my head. For that, I have no words adaquate enough to explain my endearment to him. It seems that we go through life, not really expecting too much, and then you get the unexpected. In this case, the unexpected is truly wonderful and accepted whole heartily! As I go through the rest of my life, my hope would be that John will be in it!
To you, my dear friend ..... and MORE!
Richard
"Rules of the Road 101." Revision Level H (2013-Feb-16)
Significant rule changes have been made on my Tribe page and have been revised as follows.
Please read them carefully as they will be enforced swiftly and without adjudication on or about 01-Oct-2012.
Rules suck but some of you have unfortunately made them necessary as private “stuff” is appearing in my “public” spaces and making everything “private” is not on my “to-do” list.
Read this FIRST for I will not explain it twice...
I take my Tribe very seriously and expect that you all do as well.
Since I 1st signed on way back when in 2005 Tribe was the “wild west” and I am very pleased with all the friends I have made here (with over 1,000 members I must be doing something right).
I am here to amuse, entertain, to teach what I know and sometimes even irritate when I can.
And for the pie of course… Kudo's to you for that bit David!
While casual observers are always welcome, don’t expect me to make you tea and a bun unless there is some sort of effort on your part first.
To watch the “Floor Show” you must have a ticket.
If you really want to be within 1º’ of separation of me (that is how Tribe works after all) there are going to be a few rules and while enforcement of some of these may be seemingly random at times.
They are after all my rules.
It is good to be king, at least some of the time anyway...
No one is getting the boot right now (and some of you are really hairy edge close btw), but this is how it needs to be hence forth so don’t be offended if I decline your invitation for membership, don’t wish to join some tribe of yours that I have absolutely no interest in, or find you generally offensive (I am pretty open minded but I do have my limits).
The Rulez are as follows:
1: You will state your real age clearly (in Earth years) in your profile and you will be at least 21 years of age regardless of the laws where you personally reside (this goes without exception btw).
2: You must state an accurate geographical location in your profile that is on standard charts. Vega doesn't count btw as it is not a terrestrial location. Nor do entire countries/landmasses like the United States, Canada, Europe, Asia, et cetera...
3: You must have at least one image associated with your profile (nice if it is of your face). Random body parts especially genitalia are strictly prohibited (regardless of gender). PERIOD!
3a: A special exception may be made for noobs outside of Tribe that received a personal invite from me as I already know what you look like. However you will put up a face pic in a reasonable period of time or you will get the boot…
4: You will include a few words in your invitation as to why I should want you as my friend here. This ain’t Facebook folks! You can’t just “Like” me here. A blank invite simply gets declined as a rule.
5. If your main Tribe profile pic is an X-rated body part (I don't care who it belongs to) your invitation will be declined.
6. Comments made in my 'public' spaces found to be inappropriate for 'general public' consumption will be deleted without question and risk immediate loss of membership and even blocking may occur for repeat offenders. So use some common sense and don’t post these to my 'public' space folks if you can't say it to you Grandmother...
7: Oh, and did I mention that you MUST have some form of a profile?
8. Acts (and images or descriptions thereof) that are illegal in the US will result in loss of membership (and yeah someone did this one that was orders of magnitude outta' line).
9. Nothing posted here may be reproduced in any for without my expressed permission.
Young females with faceless pics (or not) offering "love" are reported to help@tribe.net immediately for unsubscription. As are folks offering vast riches left to me by a long lost relatives in Burkina Faso, Nigeria, et cetera. I understand top domains and redirection so please don't waste my time. The will be reported to the Tribe.net admins and they will send you on your way post haste (usually).
I WILL read your entire profile and look at all of your photos thoroughly (whenever possible) before accepting a “friend” invitation.
Anything that smacks of illegality, exhibits seriously bad judgment or is just patently offensive will be an instant disqualification and that will be the end of the interview.
There has been a disturbing trend here as of late with folks posting sexually explicit pictures of young people of questionable legal age.
This behavior will get you the boot without any further discussion.
<EG>
The “Friends only” areas are reserved for those of you who are members of my inner circle and you pretty much know what I find amusing and what I don’t so the rules are significantly less strict there (and the bar is set pretty here low folks). However, some level of decorum is still expected.
Comments not meeting these criteria will promptly be deleted (and you may get a reminder about it). Repeat offenders will lose their access to the “Friends only” spaces and in most cases the decision will be final and nonegotiable.
I am not here to play “Net Nanny” and have no desire to control what you put on your page as long as it doesn't end up on mine.
So please use some common sense folks.
It is quite simple really and not too much to ask I think.
I put a lot of effort into this place every week so it is only fair that I have at least a vague idea as to who I allow into my inner circle.
Assuming that the honor system even works here.
So without further ado, on with the show!
Let's keep this fun...
And remember, I AM the Shadout Mapes. I do not count my dead...
Peace
Namaste’
John

(2013-Jun-13) -- Advanced Micro Devices claims it will beat archrival Intel in shipping the first 5GHz PC processor. AMD targets the performance hungry market of computer gamers with its eight-core AMD FX-9590 which it said will ship in systems this summer.
The news comes days after Intel announced its next-generation processor family, Haswell. It initially comes in 51 versions ranging from 1.7 to 3.9GHz.

The ring, which will capture subatomic particles that live only 2.2 millionths of a second, will be transported in one piece, and moved flat, to its new home at the U.S. Department of Energy's Fermi National Accelerator Laboratory in Illinois. The trip is expected to take more than a month. (AP Photo...

The first APOD appeared eighteen years ago today, on 1995 June 16. Although garnering only 14 pageviews on that day, we are proud to estimate that APOD has now served over one billion space-related images over the past eighteen years. That early beginning, along with a nearly unchanging format, has allowed APOD to be a consistent and familiar site on a web frequently filled with change. Many people don't know, though, that APOD is now translated daily into many major languages. We again tha...

I’m so glad Bob likes it as well. Just not too spicy for him.
They are a bit expensive and they do do take away.
It is worth it.
