I'm getting my linear design piece workshopped for next class, but I

really don't think the story I'm writing can be accomplished in a linear

way. Should I do the assignment, make it linear and not be happy with

it, or should I do it more modular, and be happier with it?

After attending an Ice Cream Festival and spending hours working on juggling under the malicious Austin sun, Yoshi and I high-tailed it to a fundraiser party that was said to include bellydancers y firespinners.

And there were.

Bellydancer Lady and Bellydancer Tart- BeLady and BeTart - were pretty cool. BeLady had an incredible fluidity to her and an unspeakable charm with kids. There were some bebes jumping around on a little platform meant for the performers, and BeLady played with them and really catered to them. In terms of moves, she didn't do anything overly complex, but the quality of her work was really high. BeLady started out with a veil dance which didn't impress me (Yay, Anya! Yay Anya's superiour dancing!) worked into

a standard, well-flowing bellydance routine, then did a similar one with a little flame on her head. Everytime she worked with the kids, dancing with them, shimmying at them, doing a call-response thing, she wore this incredible grin. BeLady seemed much like that young, deviant aunt you always wanted, who took you out to Belgian Waffles the instant you woke up, and insisted you had to dance on the table when you wanted more ice cream.

BeTart was Nicole Kidman in Moulin Rouge with more botox. She did great isolation work, but otherwise... eh. She had no engagement with the audience. I dock big points for errors in showmanship.

Most folks don't specialize in staff! *this is so cool face*



It was cool. The staffspinner, who also did poi and little finger yo-yos, was an amazing wraith. It was like watching an anatomical drawing throw around fire in a primal way.



YOSHI

But you did find it primal, right?



ARIES

Yep.



YOSHI

It can be anything, so long as it's primal.

Learning to juggle feels like speaking a new language. Bending my knees assists the matter.



We saw bats tonight, the bats lurking under Congress Bridge. They swam out in trickles into the night, fizzling out of sight like fireworks. They looked odd, like brown fish, chittering below us, darting between bridge and sky.



Also saw "Dead President's Club," an unexpectedly funny play about Cal "Sleepy" Coolidge, Harry "DJ Drop dat Bomb" Truman, Lyndon "Bangin' B" Johnson and Richard "Sweatosaur" Nixon all in Purgatory. A bit lumpy at the end, but otherwise great, considering the audience median age was approx. 65 y/o/a. Not to diss older folk, but the humor is not always shared. Except it was political/historical humor and just some cute lines. I love humanized LBJ.



A lot of ice cream consumed in the past weekend.



It's odd to consider that summer ends very soon. Very odd. Towards the end, the days have become fantastical, today crazy streams of bats, yesterday jugglers everywhere... this isn't no "August is cruel month, zomg" or "when be school" thing. I'm looking forward to school, I gotta say... but I'm enjoying a release from stress. Quite a lot.
