about me
I am a swingevangelist: a Lindy Hop and swing dancing fanatic, who loves to pull others into our sorid world of venacular African-American social-partnered Jazz dance and dirty Blues dancing. I just started belly dancing cabaret, and can't wait to go into tribal and hip hop fusion. I'm an ex-Pow-wow Princess, and still enjoy attending various pow-wows around the Eastern Kansas area. I'm a founder and VP of the KU Swing Society.

The Last Egyptian Belly Dancer: Rich Saudis are transforming Cairo's entertainment scene.
(blog entry)
Interesting article (although shorter and more incomplete than I would have liked) about how Saudi investment in Egypt arts and culture (and to be honest, government) is forcing change to a more conservative, Saudi-centric ideal of entertainment. ...

At least it's shorter hours this year. It always irritated me that at the GW they took M-Day away and gave you your birthday off. Memorial Day weekend my family travels to our families' cemetaries and graves and ...

I'm thinking about putting tint and a visor tint on the front windows, maybe a different shifter knob, eventually/maybe some white 17 or 18" rims, and I really want to get a stencil of a Lindy Hop scene on the hood. I was thinking about a clear vinyl bra too to protect from paint nicks since, as someone on Scion Li...

The sound off board is also interesting, because of a lack of understanding amongst Muslim and non-Muslims regarding the difference between culture, religion and Pan-Islamism. I'll expand later on my...

After following a lead on Sarah DuBois to her father Louis DuBois (the Van Meter/Meterens and DuBois' seem to be fairly well documented with lots of wills and religious documentation as they were fairly prominent landowners in America) and then I found some relatives connecting them clear back to Charlemagne through a geneaological society that specializes in l...

People really do that. There's a club. In England. Where they catapult each other through the air, hopefully to land in a large trapeze net set up at a distance. Of course, while filming for a science of weapons type show, the first female member of the club on her first "fling", missed the net. It was a pretty excellent moment. I wish we had ...

At least it's shorter hours this year. It always irritated me that at the GW they took M-Day away and gave you your birthday off. Memorial Day weekend my family travels to our families' cemetaries and graves and honors our fallen soliders before going to family gatherings. On my birthday, everyone else is working, and I'm all alone. If they REALLY wanted to celebrate my birthday, give me the day AFTER so I can recover from "celebrating" the night before.
