My Blog
SILENT MARTYRS
Sat, April 19, 2008 - 7:40 AMI am sitting out in my balcony,
trying to find peace and balance.
A remedy from my previously hectic
and stressful day of running around.
I am smoking
and blowing out
towards the tree in front of me.
The one that protects me and my eyes
from seeing into the neighboring
apartment complex.
I think about how
trees have it easy,
standing there,
givng oxygen and
receiving carbon dioxide.
Then I think about
how they
just stand there
in one spot
for years and years
absorbing
the world's energies
in their lifetimes.
Throughout the highs and lows
of humanity, of society.
Receivng the web of
transmitting emotions.
The brain waves,
the radio waves,
the pollution.
And at the same time,
they give us serenity
whenever we decide
to slow down
and absorb them.
The occasional rustling
from the breezes and winds
is their only sound.
Planted firm and strong;
quietly surrounding us
as we humans/animals/ants/termites
go about our business
from day to day,
throughout the decades and
maybe even centuries
making the world what it is.
And then we chop them down.
I looked at my cigarette
then put it out.
Another reason to quit.
