about me
I'm married with a stepson (grown) and stepdaughter (almost 18). I love spending time with my family and friends, as well as just quietly by myself sometimes. I love cooking, crafting, reading, and many other activities. I love being outdoors in nice weather and traveling (though I can't often afford it) is a great joy to myself and my husband.

My Thoughts, Hopes, Dreams, and Rants

Well, she didn't have wings, but she gave me some amazing information. We talked of disabilities, and fighting with Social Security, and trying to afford food. It was then that she gave me some information about making food more afordable. She told me about Angel Food Ministries. An organization that helps people afford food - with no qualifications needed. The food is restaurant quality, and the average box of food is around $30, made to feed a family of four for about a week, and is wo... read more

It was another great Friday with my sister. She helped me out again by cleaning - this time only the main things, so it wasn't so bad for her. I so appreciate it. My baby niece was a doll again - she has a way of baby-talking that sounds like a real language - hard to describe, but it is so funny. Some things she says you can kind of tell what she is trying to say.

Unfortunately she tried to repeat a not nice couple of words that slipped out of my mouth when I almost fell out of my c... read more

I discovered a "new" bus route today that allowed me to run a couple of errands in one trip. I was able to go to the mall, sell a few books (only got $2.50, but I was done with them anyway), and hit a food store in one loop. The mall and Half Price Books are across the street from each other, but taking the different route sent me past the Aldi store that I needed to get some things from for the party on Saturday. It was nice to do something in almost the same amount of time it would have ... read more

I can't believe it's Labor Day already. I hate the thought of winter looming so closely ahead. The weather has been so unusually cool here this summer that it seems like we've hardly had a summer. I dread being shut in for winter - I can only hope that it will be a mild one with warmer temps and little snow. My dad told me that El Nino is supposed to ensure just that type of winter, but I'm not counting on anything - only hoping and praying. I also hope it's mild so the energy bill doesn... read more

Jazzmine is five months old today. I can't belive how big she's gotten. She's 26" long and 17 pounds. Sara stopped over last night with her so we could see her. She has two teeth, sits up, stands when you hold her hands, and walks around forward and backward in a walker. Time has sure flown. When she's on her belly, she pulls her knees up and rocks on her hands and knees. The funny thing is that she has been able to roll to her side since she was born, but doesn't roll over completely ... read more

Re: 'cool Zone' bag (in Crafty Vixens) One thing that I've seen used in "therapy" situations for calming is tactile therapy. Get a few squares (say, 6"x6" or so) of different textured fabrics. Some good ones are satins, polar fleece, flanal, denim, and so on. Sew them together like ... read more

Re: NO RUNNING........ (in Dogzone) Ouch! Sorry to hear that. I've injured myself a few times - or the dogs got me - when playing with the 'kids'. Duncan loves bottles and rolled up magazines and used to jump for them when I'd hold them up and try to keep them away from him. I w... read more

Re: Happy Halloween (in Dogzone) What a cute pit - I've never seen one with markings like that. Mine would never keep that costume on.

I felt bad for the little sheep in the second one - it was kind of funny, but sad too. But they didn't get hurt (I hope), so I'm sure it w... read more
