yeah homie... just start over. Two strand twists? simply not gonna happen. I agree with Lee Ann that you should backcomb... but without the wax. I mean, why go from one disaster to another...?

Why cut them out? use string that is the same color as your hair and just let it knot in like it was a strand of hair. Rubber bands will often break your hair which will cause more loose hair and more maintaince that needs to be done.
