It's been a lovely day for Sam and me. We've been to the thrift store, where the ladies had set aside for him the most fabulous dinosaur puppet whose name, Sam tells me, is Bonzai. And we took Bonzai to the library, where Sam picked out books for him and they read together. And we took Bonzai to the deli for lunch, where we sat together at a table and ate and chatted, sharing our sandwich and chips with Bonzai. I have lately begun to miss my old blog and write posts in my head. Life has been so large these past few months there has been little room to slip away and record my thoughts. Sam has grown so much, in thought and in body. He seems to grow inches overnight and awake in the morning with a whole new vocabulary.

It's morning, Thursday morning, to be exact, and we're getting ready for our town day. We pack a lot into this trek out of our remote desert and into the scruffy Nevada town where we shop and visit with our friends.

Sam is generally indifferent to Going Places, except when it involves getting to see his friend Diane, whom he loves with abandon. On Thursday mornings she plays with him and gives him juice and kisses and cookies while I go to my Al-Anon meeting. And for this I love her, too. ... read more
Sam is sitting next to me on the couch talking about his upcoming birthday party. He has received a gift in the mail with brightly colored wrapping paper and this has him thinking and thinking about this birthday thing.
