They're vegan, so they're healthy . . . right? . . . (blog entry) Lordy, no. And they are delish. Herewith one of my recent forays into vegan baking, courtesy of Isa Chandra Moskowitz. She calls these "fauxstess" cupcakes. It actually takes four recipes -- for the batter, filling, ganache, and squiggles --- so i... read more

Two Letters of Acceptance (blog entry) Well, the news arrived from both schools within 24 hours of each other -- so New York Academy and Pennsylvania Academy both said yes. They are both good schools and I would have an amazing time at either place, so it is hard to make a decision and... read more

English Majors Have Super Powers (blog entry) For a while I nurtured a vigilante super-hero alter-ego called "Apostrophe" who would swoop down under cover of darkness and use a can of spray paint to add and remove apostrophes from business and street signs as needed. Ohhhhhhhh YEAH! (blog entry) I decided to watch the Inauguration at my old art school. This is because on September 11, 2001 I was happily enjoying my second week of art school when the bad news broke. During what was probably the worst day in my memory I stood in the commons... read more

about me
I came to Tribe because of my connection with the New England fire community. I am an artist by profession. Happily married, no kids, two cats, ten nieces and nephews. I prefer simple to elaborate and worthwhile to interesting. I prefer silence to noise and large talk to small talk. I prefer warmth to wit.

It actually takes four recipes -- for the batter, filling, ganache, and squiggles --- so it isn't an everyday project but totally worth it. They taste so decadent you would never guess they were vegan. Some of these (missing the ganache) made it to drum and dance last Friday . . . Nam nam nam . . .

Well, the news arrived from both schools within 24 hours of each other -- so New York Academy and Pennsylvania Academy both said yes. They are both good schools and I would have an amazing time at either place, so it is hard to make a decision and will merit lots of mulling over in the next few weeks. Last night was cathartic and I was freaking out -- partly over the change that is coming in our lives, and partly because it costs so much -- but this morning I am feeling more the cheery side o... read more

For a while I nurtured a vigilante super-hero alter-ego called "Apostrophe" who would swoop down under cover of darkness and use a can of spray paint to add and remove apostrophes from business and street signs as needed. I still fantasize about that. It's not a hard rule to learn, but most people don't want to know it.

I decided to watch the Inauguration at my old art school. This is because on September 11, 2001 I was happily enjoying my second week of art school when the bad news broke. During what was probably the worst day in my memory I stood in the commons and watched on that large screen TV, surrounded by a crowd of riveted students, until I couldn't watch any more.

Today I went back to my school because I wanted to stand in that same room and watch that same large screen TV to see something of hi... read more
