The Eliot Spitzer scandal reminds me of something that I read somewhere about "moral health" - that the test of whether a person is truly moral is whether their conduct is the same regardless of who is watching.

Or something to that effect. One of the signs was something like, "He does a lot of church volunteer work." The reasoning was that people who do a lot of "good work" use that as a justification for the bad things they do. Sort of a way to be blind to how bad they are. That got me thinking. I know a LOT of UU church volunteers being one myself, and while they are mostly really good people... read more
