I got a lovely letter from my health insurance company last night, saying that an office visit from September would not be covered, with a note: "Contraceptives are not covered by your plan." Surely there is some mistake, think I, and call this morning. The nice woman from Cigna (my insurance company) informs me that, sure enough, family planning is NOT FUCKING COVERED by my insurance company. No coverage for a visit to talk about family planning, no coverage for a visit to get a depo shot, no coverage to get an IUD, not a goddamn thing. The nice lady on the phone (who clearly handles calls about lots of insurance companies) says, that's weird, I've never seen that before, but that's what it says about your plan.

Now, fortunately for me, the pharmacy plan is seperate from the rest of the plan and seems to cover prescription contraceptives that you can get from the drug store. Still- WHAT THE FUCK?? So my plan will cover me if I get knocked up, but not help me prevent getting knocked up? That's what I get for working at a goddamn Catholic hospital. I wonder if they cover visits for guys to go in a talk about impotence and get perscriptions for viagra? Betcha they do, because guys can control their sexuality, but women are not allowed the same privledges. Fucking 1950's health insurance. I am SO GODDAMN PISSED I can hardly see straight.

For those who don't know, I'm an ER nurse. It can get a little... interesting. I'm inspired to share a couple of anicdotes, as my last patient of the day today was someone who tried to commit suicide by overdosing on her antidepressant meds... it is just me, or is that unbearably ironic?

I had a patient last month who was clearly not the brightest bulb. Came in with coughing and shortness of breath. She had pneumonia. I went in the room and told her that her chest x-ray showed that she had a respiratory infection. Her eyes got wide and she asked, in a horrified voice, "Is that sexually transmitted???" As a friend of mine commented, not unless you're snorting semem....

On our patient board, we list the patient's name, medical record number, age, and a chief complaint. Usually this is something tame, like "nausea and vomiting" "possible miscarrage" "chest pain" or whatever. A few of my favorite chief complants:

"hand vs. chainsaw"
"chapped lips" (seriously- he came via AMBULENCE when he just needed some chapstick)
"did crank and feel funny"
"large marble stuck in vagina"
"snorted coke and nose hurts"

:-)
Just thought I'd share....

Just a quick post to say- I love this place! I don't know how I can feel more at home after 7 months here than I did after over 4 years in Minneapolis, but it's true... to all my friends, you are so wonderful, thank you!!! :-) I don't always have as much time to spend with some of you as I want to... and I know those of you who know me might find this hard to believe, but deep down I'm an introvert and I have this thing about not wanting to impose on people, so I know sometime I can seem a little alof, and I don't mean to! It is always wonderful to see everyone out at BaGG or the Citadel or where ever... big HUGS to you all!

Who remains in the tribe?

RAPTURE!

Fuckers. Anyway, I'm not at all happy about what's going on in the Citadel tribe, and it's just fucked up that the people who actually make the place work (long-time volunteers, including our general contractor fer chrissake!) are being booted. I know there is discussion of there being another Citadel tribe for members (once we go membership) and a tribe name for that was reserved long ago by the owners of the Citadel. In the meantime, sink your teeth into this:

Oh god, what a weekend! First Bent on Friday... my first time hosting ANYTHING (I haven't even thrown birthday parties), and damn, I have a whole new appreciation for all the promoters & hosts out there. Thank you to all who came and made it such fun :). I was so worried until about 10:30, when the party picked up and I started to relax. And I'm already thinking about the next one... I *must* be a masochist, huh? ;P Ah, but it's a good kind of stress, and all worth it in the end.

And then KS XXXmas... wish I could have gotten a pic with my fellow reindeer, but this one will have to do. Fun and relaxing and wonderful! Everyone looked AMAZING.

Remember Sesame Street, the "One of these things is not like the others" bit? See if you can apply that to the following list:

BARRY & AKEMI (PLAN 9/MADAME S)
JOSH & Mss. PANDORA (BaGG/SJI)
PHIL& AUGUST (SF CITADEL)
SCOTT & POLLY (KINKY SALON)
STEFFANOS & CHEY (MINNEAPOLIS, MN)
TCHUKON & PAIGE (MADAME/MR S)

I mean, shit! Stef and Chey from Minneapolis, MN! George told us we'd be on the court with a "few cool people." Damn. I'm feeling rather out-classed, to say the least! Ah, but we'll have fun anyway, and at least we know a few of our fellow perverted prom court members. Hope to see many familiar faces at the Prom... and I think we should all vote for August and Phil, because she keeps saying she's the "preverted grandma" of the prom... but we all know differently! :) And if anyone is more perverted than her and Phil (or more involved in the local perverted community), I want them caught and shot right now ;).

ps- the picture is from Minneapolis' Goth Prom last year...

Did a photo shoot with Daren on Friday... I was surprised but flattered when he made the offer to take some pictures of me. Never having done anything like that before, I was more than a little nervous... I'm self-confident within certain groups and parameters, but otherwise can be rather self-critical. Which is to say, put me nekkid in a group of BDSM people, or wearing next to nothing out at a goth club, and I'm all good- happy, confident, devil-may-care. I've been in both those scenes for long enough that it's almost like walking around my house without clothes. (The first time I walked into the MN BaGG (cursed, cursed MN BaGG- sorry George!) eating a sandwich I knew I wasn't really just a guest there anymore.) But if you put me, say, on a LA beach in a string bikini... the confidence would evaporate.

All of which is just to say, what a fun experience it turned out to be! He did a wonderful job helping put me at ease, making suggestions, and finishing out the pics (cropping, playing with the colors, etc), and was absolutely sweet about the whole thing. Some of the pics will probably be up on sfdigitalphotography.com in a few days... and in any case, the rest of his stuff is fun to look at :).

(As a note, most of the pics are less fetish-y than the one I'm putting up with the blog... but I'm a kinky kind of girl, so of course I like the couple of fetish ones best...)

Very sad that the space is closing; it was fantastic. Then Saturday out to the DMA class and BaGG at Rawhide (the pic is from Saturday night). I'm used to a different mix of music, but it was danceable... fun to meet Hawk and see the public dungeon space.
We're now in Montana, on the way to CA (bless wireless internet and laptops)... we passed through North Dakota, and are headed to Idaho and Utah tomorrow. I'm driving the car in the pic, with my dog, while Stef follows on his bike. There were actual tall buildings (not many, but still) when we passed Billings, MT.... it was very exciting :-I. Otherwise there is lots of cows, and farms, and um, rocks. As GIR would say: "Cows are my friends!"
God I can't wait to be in California.

This was my second-to-last weekend in MN- had to go out to Renn Fair. I hear the one in MN sucks compared those in CA... regardless, we had fun, drank mead, and ate turkey legs. what more does a girl need?

the pic is of myself and my Dom, Stefanos, squinting in the glare of the evil day moon ;).

ahhh... there's something about having a scalpel run over my back in pretty patterns that just drains my stress... perhaps there *was* something to all that bleeding and leaching doctors did back in the day.

I had a rant all prepared, about the killer 1.5 hour online test i had to take this afternoon so that my travel company knows i won't accidentally kill anyone when they let me work as a travel nurse... this after i've already given them my fingerprints, passport photo, last 7 years of addresses, last 6 years of employment (like i remember all the shit jobs i held in college?) blood tests, statement from my doctor, original transcripts from both my colleges, signed forms saying they can check my credit report and driving records and criminal background and talk to my neighbors and friends about my "character" if they want to... I mean it's nice that they don't let child molesters or homicidal maniacs work for them, but isn't this a little excessive? In any case i forgot the best bits of the rant i had in my head, but.. well.. it's probably better that way.

will be moving to SF in early september; checked out the Janus site and found myself on tribe. new to this blog thing. i've kept journals (obsessive, excessive journals) since middle school and i guess the idea of putting them online always seemed to kinda defeat the purpose? i'm writing my private thoughts, right? oh wait, great idea- i'll write them where any friends or strangers who're interested (who might that be?? no one i can think of) can read them! i guess it just seems kinda self-important. like who the hell cares about my inner thoughts and feelings etc? why don't i just go write bad poetry instead?
