<div>So I'm an awful procrastinator. I laid out the scroll that I made for a friend of mine who is getting an award this Saturday, months ago, and only put it on the parchment this past week. Granted, I didn't even get the parchment until two weeks ago, but still. I could have started then.

Anyway, it's done. All it needs are the seals and signatures, and those go on tomorrow at the event.

<div>A friend of mine started a Mind Body Spirit Warrior group over on LJ, and while reading one of his posts I got inspired, so tonight I started a new thing. Here it is...

Ritual swordwork. I'm not sure why it never occurred to me to do it before, but oh well, never to late to start.

I have a specific purpose to this ritual that I am starting. Self betterment of course being part of it, but I will be working other aspects into as I go.

Tonight I started off simply grounding. This was an experiment to see if it would work, and what it felt like. After realizing I was facing west I turned east and started over. Once I was properly grounded I started mixing parries and thrusts, simply flowing from one to the next not stopping to orient myself or realign. Soon I was facing south, and the flow stopped. I recentered and repeated the process until I was facing west. West was a bit more tricky. I'm not sure why, but I kept fighting the tree in front of me. I had to recenter 3 times before I finally felt comfortable and ended in the north. The north was not as smooth as the first two, but it was better than the west.

I think what I need to do next time is banish the entire circle then just go where my movements take me. That will make it so I don't feel like I have to keep to the right. Or... I could open with my right hand, and close with my left. Naw, I don't want to get in that habit, to predictable when fighting an opponent. I will also have prepared the working, so that will help focus me.

What was really great about the whole thing was that I was aware of what my body was doing, and most of the time it felt right. There were only two times that my brain kicked in and said, "That won't work in a real fight."

    </a>
										<div>I knew this was coming. It doesn't make it any less lonely.

I did a reading about 2 months ago, trying to decide if I should stay in school or get a job. Both had very good outcomes. If I had gotten a job, I'd have ended up with the 7 of pents and the 2 of cups. A good path, with a good job, and a good relationship.

With staying in school the path was through the Hermit, but the end result was the Ace of cups. Though the path is lonelier, the rewards, seemed greater. At the time. I've found that I'm longing for companionship, but it eludes me. I'll keep reminding myself of that fulfillment at the end of this solitary road I must travel. </div>

<div>Well, I did it! I'm graduating with honors Saturday the 19th of May! My parents are coming up from San Juan Capistrano to watch. It's only my AS, so I have another year of GE before I can transfer, and then (hopefully only) two years at Humboldt State and I'll have a BS in Historic Preservation and Restoration Technology. Or perhaps Anthropology with a specialization in Historic Preservation. I'm not sure yet. I still have to go up to HSU and talk to the professor that specializes in HP. They don't have a degree specifically in what I want, but I can make my own.

Time to clean the house though! The Parents are coming, the Parents are coming!!</div>

    </a>
										<div>I had such a wonderful weekend. I got to hang out with a lot of great people, and have an all around good time. Aram and I left at around 9, and got to the site at 1. A relatively short drive. I really liked that. The site opened at noon and already most of the eric space was taken. The space that Dugbhall wanted the moniers pavilion set up at was still available though. But the map that he drew and how things were set up was a bit different. So I grabbed us a spot and set up camp. Helped a few other people out while we waited, and punched some blanks. The other Allyshians started trickling in around 4. Friday night was pretty tame. Walked around with Aysiln (Wow, I need to learn to spell her name!) Hung out with friends, went to one of the vigils, then deiced it was time to turn it. It was probably around 2. I stopped by and talked to Nytshade about the Western White Scarf, then snuggled into my freezing cold bed. I ended up putting on both pairs of stretch pants that I have for fencing, as well as a hoody over my nightgown.

Saturday is still a bit of a blur. I didn't drink too much Friday night, so I was up at the first heralds call around 8:30. Went to first court, where Ian became the new monier guild master. Michael of Castle Keep and Nytshade were given their white scarfs, and a lot of other fun stuff happened. In second court the Viking horde swore fealty as well as with the populace. Right after court was a speed tourney for rapier. I had a lot of fun with that. Didn't do too badly either. Decided not to play the last round though, because the Moot was about to start. I was elevated to Journeyman, and Dugbhall was made a Master Monier. Beer is great for hair, BTW. Then evening court the moniers presented the king with his coin. We had to have tossed at least 500 coin that day. It made lots of people happy.

That night I was bouncing all over the place. Hung out in the moniers pavilion and played games. Passed out my blackberry cordial. Everybody loved it. This was a really good batch. I need to get it into better bottles before too long though. Right now it's mostly in twist tops. Need to keep the oxygen away from it. Went and watched the fire dancers on the eric, then back to the moniers, and then back to the eric. I think I finally crawled into bed around 4. Most of the party was over by then. I didn't shut it down this time. Just got too cold and tired. I need to put more blankets under me next time, I think.

Sunday morning the moniers added a new Apprentice, and Fellow to the guild. Then we struck a 1/2 lb of coin for the Prince of Cynagua. Took our time packing up the car, because it was so darn hot! Towards the end there I felt like I was going to pass out. Decided it was time to go then. Once we got the AC going and some gatorade in my I felt a lot better. It was a great weekend. These things can never portray what it is like to be in that environment. I think I'll try later though. There was this one moment while I was walking around on Saturday that everything that I love about the SCA became clear to me. It was the perfect setting. But right now I have a paper to write.

    </a>
										<div>That's not true. I love to write, I just hate having to write what other people want me to. A part time summer job, and two English papers down the drain, because I get writers block when I am told to research something then write about it. The summer job last year should have been a breeze. Go out, take pictures of houses in this neighborhood then write a short description of each. The pictures got taken as well as notes about the design of each house in a full block. Then came the awful part of writing out those descriptions. I got one done, and it sounded like crap. I dreaded having to write any more. Here it is a year later, and I still only have one description done. I can't even think about writing more without getting tense. Same thing with the research papers. The research is done. All I have to do is write out what I've learned. I've put it off for two weeks now. I can't make myself sit down and do it without feeling like getting up and running away. I just don't understand it. Last semester I procrastinated on doing my English homework by writing erotica. I write well, and do enjoy writing, just not things I care nothing about, I guess.

Ok, rant done. I feel a bit better. Tomorrow I'm going to get out my hand writing journal and the worksheets we were given to start this project. I'll follow the writing exercises in hopes that I will be able to finish this. I have to pass this class to graduate. </div>

<div>And am I paying for it now! My legs are killing me, from the cold and all the running around I did.

It took Deirdre, Freda, and I about 6 and a half hours to get to the site. When we arrived there were quite a few people set up already, and pretty much all of the flat places were taken. We did find one, right behind the stage, by the fire pit, but unfortunately they later decided that was where the Mists pavilion was going to go. Our stuff got moved to another side of the pit that wasn't nearly as flat, but it worked out ok. After we set up camp again, we got the flat of strawberries cut up, and I put the sugar and balsamic vinegar in them to let them sit. I found out that you have to use REALLY good vinegar. The cheap stuff is good, but not as good as it was the first time I tried it. Set that aside for the next night's pot luck and got into garb. I took it easy Friday night, because I knew we were doing melee the next day. I wanted to make sure that I was well rested and well for that.

Wow, tons of fun. I think I my kill ratio was pretty even at first. We did a castle wall battle, and everyone was standing back and just batting at each others swords, so I decided to just jump in and skewer myself, since we had unlimited regenerations. I got killed but think I took out two of them. (They did not get to regenerate.) I must admit, I was behind Santiago when we did the cannonball, and he was much faster uphill than I was. When we were defending the castle wall, I got taken out pretty quickly. Was lunging for someone (who I think I got) when Blayde hit me in the head. Geeze, is that man quick! The bridge battle was ok, lots more hitting each other swords. My buckler got some nasty gashes in it, so I think someone on Cynagua's side had a broken blunt. The rest of the afternoon was full of field battles, then HRH Utter ran a tournament to end the day. I won one out of my three fights. Seeing the war units working together really made me wish we had more people up here. I'd love to have someone to plan strategies with, and such. The Black tigers worked really well together. And the Isles had a great camaraderie going.

That evening there was a wonderful bardic after the pot luck with a delicious roast whole pig. The strawberries mellowed out quite a bit from the night before, and were pretty darn good, if I do say so meself. In the bardic, different war units sponsored someone to perform for them. All of the ones that I saw were great, but unfortunately I had to slip out to use the privy, and missed the winning performance by House De Grendelus.

The rest of the night was spent playing Three Man and chatting with friends. I met some new people this weekend, and had a great time! Next event I'll be attending will be Sheep's Raid up in Crescent City in two weeks! Yay!

<div>Yesterday, when I heard the news that the Pentagon was extending the deployment of our soldiers in the Middle East, my heart sank. These men and women have been abused for far too long. They are in a war that most of them don't believe in, and are fighting for a madman who is murdering them for nothing more than greed.

Exhaustion has set in. I am tired of feeling useless in a system where we have elected officials who pander, or cower. They offer him more money with non binding resolutions, and he laughs at them. He tells them he will not compromise. He kills more soldiers, and there is nothing I can do about it but shed my tears.

Do I have the words that will make a difference? That magic phrase that will finally bring all the people in this country to the realization that the man who cheated to gain the white house will never yield. He will not give up his wars, even if he has to kill every one of our brave fighting men and women, because he does not care. He does NOT support the men and women who are loyal to this once great country!

"You see my kind of loyalty was loyalty to one's country, not to its institutions, or its office holders. The country is the real thing, the substantial thing, the eternal thing; it is the thing to watch over, and care for, and be loyal to; institutions are extraneous, they are its mere clothing, and clothing can wear out, become ragged, cease to be comfortable, cease to protect the body from winter, disease, and death. To be loyal to rags, to shout for rags, to worship rags, to die for rags--this is loyalty to unreason..."

Being Productive

    </a>
										<div>I've been pretty productive the past couple of days. (Well, except with my English homework.) I've melted down 2 lbs of tin for coin blanks. Hammered out a couple into roundish shapes, made 3 punches. Cut out the skirt for my fencing jacket, and sewed on 2 of the 3 panels. I even managed to watch a couple of rented movies that I've had for the last month. I've been to fencing practice 2 times already this week, as well as the Baronial meeting. In the next day or so I'll finish up my jacket, and hopefully make a cowl. I also have a hat I should try to make by next weekend. And a dress. That probably will only get started. But my fencing gear will finally be done! I may paint a goat on the back of my fencing jacket, haven't decided yet. It's a matter of whether or not I want to keep it generic, or make it so everybody gets to know my device. Oh! I also have to shorten my fencing pants. Fix them up a bit. They are getting a bit raggedy. I should probably go ahead and make new ones soon.</div>

										<div>I am woefully short on examples of my art! Must fix this. I've uploaded a few things I have on my computer, and will be breaking out the camera in the next couple of days to take some pictures of other stuff. I also have quite a bit of digital art on my ex's computer that I need to send myself. </div>

    </a>
										<div>Every so often I feel so isolated up here in respect to access to other fencers. We have a nice small group of dedicated fighters, that is slowly growing, but I'm sure our practices are tiny compared to some of the larger citys.

This week we started a 3rd practice on Wednesdays, because it's tourney season, and the sun is finally out. (kinda) We fight in this beautiful park, surrounded by redwoods. On Sundays, a drum circle meets on the other side of the meadow, and the heavies do their practice as well. Sometimes it almost feels like an event. It was a particularly beautiful sunny day yesterday when Nichole and I were facing off in a practice bout, and I saw something move behind her right shoulder. I look up, and there is a deer head peaking out from behind a redwood! It came down the hill it was on, and paused a few times as it made it's way through the trees about 20 feet from where we were standing. She (we think) eventually trotted off behind a building.

That was just such a neat pause to a great practice. It's so beautiful here, and while I do feel I miss out on a lot of great opportunities to advance the art, being with people I highly admire, and wonderful classes by being so far out of the way, this place I call home is worth it!

    </a>
										<div>I've been listening to a lot of talk radio lately, because I'm fed up with a lot of things happening in this country. There is a really good progressive talk radio station here. They have wonderful shows like http://www.peterbcollins.com/ and http://www.thomhartmann.com/. I love listening to them, but this morning one of the talk show hosts was talking about how much they love http://kucinich.us/ and think he should be the next president, but he just isn't electable because he doesn't have the big money backers. Last time I check the people elected our presidential candidates. There is this thing called the Primaries. Nobody but Democrats get to vote there. Kucinich ran in the last election, his name is out there, he has a web site, he will be involved in the debates. So what if the main stream media doesn't cover his election stops. I'm sick of settling and voting for the lesser of two evils. I don't like Hillary or Obama. Why do we have to vote for the people the media covers the most, or who has the best chance of raising more money? And why the hell should fund raising ability decide who would make the best president? Shouldn't we be looking at who has the best qualifications, who's voting record matches our own values? More to come. I have to go study for a test.</div>

										<div>So I have decided to leave tribe come Tuesday. The thing that really attracted me about this forum was that it allowed mature content. I didn't have to worry about being censored for what I said, or did. I could browse through the communities and find other people of a like mind as I, kink or mundane.

Though LiveJournal.com isn't nearly as user friendly as tribe, I still post and read it. My screen name there is MrsPointyHat, if you still want to keep in contact with me. </div>

										<div>We went to the Sweasey theater the other day in Plaster class. It's all run down inside, most of the plaster and ornamentation has fallen off the walls. It was built in 1929, then was a department store for years. My teacher says he is trying to see if we can get in there and help put some of the pretty stuff on the inside. They are using styraphome clovered in plaster. I really hope we can get in to work in there a bit. Not only because I love the theatre, but also this tequnique is used quite a bit today, and would be a good skill to have. I thought about trying to get a job there next semester, or maybe this summer. It would be wonderful to be a part of that! Keep your fingers crossed for me! :D</div>

										<div>I'm feeling like setting up some sort of shrine. I don't know if I want to just a generic shrine, or one dedicated to a god. I don't think I want one to a god. Every time I put my life in one of their hands my life gets very complicated. I like where I am at the moment, and am not looking for any more huge changes. Maybe doing a shrine at all is just not a good idea.

I feel spiritual so rarely though, that I want to take advantage of this while it's here. Maybe work this feeling into my life a bit more somehow. I'll have to think on it a bit more.</div>
