Big Brothers Big Sisters Exhibit

<div>I am so happy to announce that this First Thursday, February 7, Portland City Hall will be exhibiting the first in a series of photographs that I’m producing with Big Brothers Big Sisters. The exhibit, “Generations: 3rd Annual Black Heritage Art Show,” honors Black History Month and will be held at 1221 SW 4th from 5-7:00 pm.

A few months back, I spoke to Big Brothers Big Sisters about the possibility of a project, and I was astonished at how many kids were placed on the waitlist—some for as long as two years. There simply aren’t enough volunteers to match everyone, especially Big Brothers, so they asked if I would do some documentary photos of their kids. For the next year, I will be hanging out with newly matched Bigs and Littles, chronicling their growing friendships, with the hope that my photographs will inspire others to become mentors, too.

For more information on the exhibit, visit Commissioner Sam Adam’s website at http://www.commissionersam.com/Generations3. And to view more photos of the project, visit my Flickr page at http://www.flickr.com/photos/christinaweber/sets/72157603854126951.

But most importantly, if you would like to become a Big, contact Big Brothers Big Sisters at 503-249-4859 or visit their website at http://www.bbbsnorthwest.org. And please repost or forward this to anyone who may also be interested in becoming a Big Brother or Big Sister.

Film processing for this project is provided by Oregon Photo &amp; Digital at http://www.oregonphoto.com/location.html, and custom printing is provided by Dennis Purdy at http://www.dennispurdy.com/.

<div>This fall, I visited a one-building town on the far edge of Nevada and took a few snapshots. It had everything that you would want in a desert highway stop--grandma, kids, chickens, cafe, bar, gas, and mounted deer heads.

The pics are up on my Flickr page, http://www.flickr.com/photos/christinaweber , if you'd like to take a look.</div>

I've also posted some more new/old beach, baby, and black &amp; white stuff on there, too, for some extra eye candy.
