about me
CounterPULSE provides support and low cost resources for emerging artists, serving as an incubator space to create socially relevant, diverse, community-based art in San Francisco. CounterPULSE works towards a world that celebrates a diversity of race, class, ability, gender identity & sexual orientation.

CounterPULSE is the new name for 848 Community Space, which has played a unique and significant role in the SF performance community since the early 90's. No other single space has supported a comparable breadth of performance, queer art, improvised dance, cutting edge lit and word, and contemporary ritual. CounterPULSE’s new location, at 1310 Mission Street in San Francisco, offers a 1500 square-foot studio, high ceilings, additional seating, and expanded technical capabilities.

CounterPULSE offers a variety of dance and theatre classes, and one of the best contact improv jams around. Check our calendar for upcoming performances, events and talks that will make you laugh, cry, think, or feel inspired. CounterPULSE's growing programming also includes an Artist in Residency Program and artist services such as Fiscal Sponsorship and administrative support. In addition to the many events and programs at our facility, CounterPULSE is the home of a variety of arts and media projects, such as Circo Zero.
