Ostrich land..

Cyndi and I took a romantic weekend drive this weekend.. Down the coast along highway 1 in the mini stopping at various cool places or just to go for a walk. We ended up in Santa Barbara at a place on the beach. Spent the evening downtown in several different pubs and bars, one with a really good Johnny Cash cover band. But the highlight of the trip was the stop on the way back up at Ostrich Land in Buellton. All the way back from Santa Barbara Cyndi kept screamin' "I wanna go to Ostrich Land! I wanna go to Ostrich Land!" OK! We went. They give you what is basically a dog food bowl bolted to a dustpan as a handle full of food. You walk out to this fence and this enormous bird (or 9) come up and tries to swipe the entire bowl, handle and all, from you. You play tug of war with one as 2 or 3 others try to battle their way in to get food as well. These things are like 5 feet tall and just huge, but clearly dumb as a rock. There's nothing clever or smart about the way they attempt to eat. They just take whacks at the bowl trying to get it's content from you. They are quite strong, and despite several warnings from the lady running the place, it was an unexpected challenge to hang on to your bowl. Still, well worth the experience. They've got a little gift shop as well selling all sorts of ostrich stuff, and I kinda wanted to get some ostrich jerky... though I'm still not sure if it was just to try it or just to eat it in front of them... If you're ever heading down 101, it's on the road between Buellton and Solvang.

It went really well.. Huge thanks to all those that came out despite it being the same weekend as the Gobo fundraiser and a holiday weekend! I got a lot of positive feedback, as did the promoter, who asked me if I'd be willing to do it again soon.

Woo... I'm tired. The Blood Vessel made it back from BRC without any issues other than a broken headlight switch which was easily fixed in Reno. Good times were had and the car was a huge hit, including getting us interviewed by a European car magazine. If you managed to get a picture of the car while on playa, please send it to me.

Dell to acquire music technology company Zing LOS ANGELES, Aug 6 (Reuters) - Dell Inc (DELL.O: Quote, Profile, Research) said on Monday it would buy privately held Zing Systems Inc, which makes technology that allows MP3 players to download music without first linking to a personal computer. The terms of the deal were not disclosed. Dell, a leading maker of PCs, said it plans to use Zing to improve the entertainment experience it provides its customers. On its Web site, Zing said mobile devices with Zing are distinguished by their ability to connect, download, manage and share content directly from the player. The first devices based on the Zing engine include Sirius Satellite Radio Inc's (SIRI.O: Quote, Profile, Research) Stiletto portable radio and SanDisk Corp's (SNDK.O: Quote, Profile, Research) Sansa Connect digital audio player. If you and your SO were to get into a car at 5:00 pm friday night, and need to return by 8am monday morning, where would you go? The idea is a mini vacation from everything. Not a big city preferred, and we've done the north coast to death. Bonus points for Bed and Breakfasts, romantic type get aways, adventure, etc... Thoughts?
