about me
Jack of many trades. Master of none.
I drive too fast, tailgate excessively, and curse too easily. Sometimes this seems an apt metaphor for the way I make my way through life (but I wouldn't want to be stuck in the slow lane, ever). I'm a road rager, extraordinaire. I'm not sure if I really believe in any sort of absolute (maybe there's one universal absolute that encompasses all of the un-absolutes???). It seems that everything in life could be placed on a monochromatic scale, and that some part will always spill over a bit into the grays. I'm remarkably cool, calm, and collected in moments of crises, as long as the crisis is someone else's. I'm all about peace, love, and harmony, but I believe that some violence is justified. I'm really good at beginnings, but not so good at endings. I'm all about getting lost in tangents, parenthetical statements longer than the main point, and fixating on fine print. I often think certain details or threads are more interesting than the tapestry as a whole, and I think many things in life are just cleverly disguised circular endings which deposit us back where we began, albeit in possession of some new knowledge or experience. I believe there's an Oscar Wilde quotation suitable for all occasions, bearing in mind that I'm sometimes short on wit, and that "Quotation is a serviceable substitute for wit" (Wilde). I've also been known to badly paraphrase Chris Rock and many other comedians. Intelligence is good, but even better with some humor in the mix. In the past I've been loyal to a fault, but I'm learning how to be loyal to myself above all else. People who are just hanging out, or are shallow and flimsy are utterly unappealing to me. People who are easily bored are boring. People who ask questions, are hardy, and hearty make me want to steal away with them to conspire in some sort of delicious rebellion. I agree for the most part with Goethe who said, "Treat people as if they were what they ought to be and you will help them to become what they are capable of being." Despite myself, I try to approach life in a humble manner: as an empty cup. Patience is indeed a virtue, and it's one that I'm striving to attain.
