Yeah, the original was rather campy, but it did have some moments of coolness (i.e. the light-cycles), and the trailer for the sequel looks wicked-awesome!

You know, I know what you mean. But I think it might be better to say that Tron was a movie of its time. Because when it was made, it wasn't considered campy. It has only perceived that way now because of the time passed and advances in movie making. And some of the bits still translate to our time.

The original one was one of the first movies to use CGI. Very high tech back then. Now it's old hat.
New movie looks interesting.

I remember being awed by the effects in the original, so I agree that it was a film of its time, the camp that I was referring to however was in the plot, not the vfx. Just the idea that a real man could be digitized and kidnapped into a world that exists inside the programming of a video game is hilarious.

I suppose that if I accept Star Trek's transporter, then I must accept the same basic idea as presented in TRON, but the idea that there's a civilization inside the code of a program? Mmmmm ... no.
