I met Kim once in London when we spent the day with Sahira and Zymirrah. She's like a beautiful, delicate doe deer skipping through a meadow!! Very graceful, natural, friendly and sweet. I've yet to see her dance, but I WILL make it up to London to support you at an event soon - I promise!!!! X

Kimmer...Kimmy Kimerson. What can I say? She makes me smile. Her dancing is ooey gooey, graceful and elegant and her costuming and jewlery make me *drool*. She is my techno-chocolate haha.

she not only dances "like butter", she is an amazing person. Dancing with her has benefited me in so many ways. I have learned much about dance and yoga, but more importantly, I have learned to, through her love and support, to appreciate myself more.

Kim is an amazing package! A beautiful dancer, designer and person. I feel very fortunate to have found her in such a big city. She is a woodland pixie in a metal city, so she's not that hard to miss ; ). I love you Miss Kimmy!!!!!!! Never go away!

Kim makes my world beautiful. She makes it a world of laughter, fun , love and affection. A world with everything I desire. She fills my head with knowledge, and knows how to make me feel good. She shakes her cute little butt in a way that I can't even believe. She's strong, gorgeous, and would be a worthy adversary if she had any enemies. She's the best thing that has ever happened to me. She's the one I adore.

My Profile

about me
My ultimate goal is to be a point of emanation for honesty and joy. I want to put love and beauty into everything I touch, and I want to be strong enough to be strong when those around me need it most. I'm the kind of person who never quite gives up the idea that I can be friends with someone, even if that person snubs me or ignores me or makes me angry. I'm also the kind of person that can aim very accurately at her mouth with her foot and get it in there almost every time. This shouldn't be taken to mean that I tolerate bullshit--I don't do that very well at all.

So if you're reading this and you're thinking to yourself that I've left you a few voice mails, or called while you were eating dinner, or I emailed you something stupid, then just know that it's because you mean something to me.

I dance all the time, I sing random songs at surprising times, I can do the meanest animal noises you've ever heard, and I often swear during otherwise-polite conversation.

This is me. And if I left you a message, call me. I love that kinda stuff.

Moved to London in July 2005. I've missed a lot about the SF Bay Area: the dance community, Ocean Beach, my friends, Muir Woods... I know there are always exciting adventures ahead, and I'm super stoked about breaking new ground. But to all of the people I love that I'm saying goodbye to--I'm really going to miss you. If I am or ever am anything good, it's thanks to you. Much love.

Wanna dance?

Hello lovelies!

As some of you may know, I've just gotten back from a fantastic weeklong intensive with Rachel Brice in Slovenia. She was my first belly dance teacher, and has been a huge source of inspiration to me over the years. (Seven years, actually! We hadn't realized how long it's been until we chatted it over this past week.)

I'm still decompressing and processing all that I've learned and revisited in the intensive, making some adjustments to my personal practice and sorting out my thoughts on a lot of things. It's all been very invigorating, and I'm looking forward to sharing some of the new things I've been working with! The best place to come and play with all this will be at the upcoming workshop at Islington Arts Factory on August 15. Advance registration is advised!

In other big news, I am once again doing a Tribal Fusion Elemental Movement course! This is the best thing to do if you're a beginner, though it's also useful for dancers who want to examine raw technique in a more focused fashion. The new class will be Wednesday nights starting in September, and there'll also be a new Combinations and Drills course on Thursday nights. (The current Thursday night course at Urdang also continues through August 13.) Full details are below!

I'll also be traveling a bit within the UK this month, with performances at the Edinburgh Fringe festival and at a sensational burlesque night in Leeds. If you're going to be in either place, I'd love to see you there! Here's a summary of what's going on:

August 15 - Workshop @ Islington Arts Factory: Expanding Articulation and Layering Experimentation
3:00pm-5:30pm; £25 -- Recent workshops have been sold-out, advance booking highly recommended!
This workshop is intended for improver/intermediate dancers and higher. We'll start with stretching and conditioning to get the body ready for isolations, move on to new drills to cement the fundamental movements and then get these moving by adding traveling and layering dimensions. This workshop will involve level changes and moderate laybacks, but these are not compulsory. If time allows, there will also be short combinations to glue all of our experiments together.
As the workshop will involve yoga- and pilates-based exercise, please dress accordingly. (Skirts are not a good idea; stretchy layers are.) Bring a bottle of water and a yoga mat for your own comfort.

August 27-October 1 - 6-Week Course: Combinations and Drills @ the Urdang Academy
Thursday nights, 6:30pm-8:00pm; Course £60
A new course in Combinations and Drills; instead of pursuing a full choreography, we will instead work on implementing knowledge in technique within combinations you can use in your own dance. This class may be taken on a drop-in basis or purchased as a 6-week course. Recommended for dancers who have completed the Elemental Movement class.
Register online at www.kimberlymackoy.com/site/C...s.html; For information, email kim@kimberlymackoy.com

September 2-September 30 - 6-Week Course in Tribal Fusion Elemental Movement @ the Urdang Academy
Tuesday nights, 6:30pm-8:00pm; £50 for 5-week course; £12 drop-in*
*Please note: This course aims to give a comprehensive introduction to tribal fusion movement, and should be taken as a full course. The previous course at City Rescue was sold-out, and drop-in attendance may not be possible.
Aimed at the beginner or the more advanced dancer wishing to revisit and strengthen elementals, this course goes back to basics: over five weeks, we will become acquainted with the conditioning required to build the body for tribal fusion movement, and also be introduced to drills for building muscle memory of the fundamental movements. By the end of the course, dancers will be acquainted with the basic components of the tribal fusion movement vocabulary, and will also have some practice integrating them into combinations. This class will involve yoga- and pilates-based conditioning, so come dressed to move and bring a bottle of water.

My Blog

Wow. It's been a pretty wild month. Now that it's almost over, I can't quite believe it all happened.

In January I was extremely pleased to go teach at the BellyFusions Festival in Paris. Julie did an extraordinary job of running a busy ship in a tight fashion; her expertise in keeping everything on schedule, after demonstrating an excellent eye for a variety of talent, was really remarkable. Everyone was so enthusiastic, and the show was packed full of a diverse range of talented dancers... read more

Hello hello! So my last post was around my last exam, and here a month to the day I'm resurfacing to write again. And writing I am... I'm in the midst of writing an academic book catalogue, as well as doing a lot of dancing and eyeing up jobs in material culture and beyond. It's been a busy month, made busier by all the time that's been eaten up by partying and recovering from the night before. I've not been too bad, but I've finished my degree so this is pretty much to be expected.

So Friday was the beginning of the beginning. And holy crap, did this weekend turn out to be an interesting dive in...

I had my last exam, and then sat outside in the glorious sunshine, having drinks with friends in front of SOAS and waiting to hear from Betty or Crissy when they landed. There was a painting project happening in front of the steps at school to benefit Iraqi refugee artists, which I added my mark to, and then I met up with my Americans at Soho. That's when the craziness beg... read more

I've had some friends in the UK mention to me that Americans often strike them as living their lives as though they're starring in their own Hollywood blockbuster. I think this is a valid observation; however, while I've had my moments, I don't usually think of my own life trajectory in those terms. Sometimes, life just wraps itself around you in particularly fantastic ways that could only be fiction, and I seem to be finding myself in one of those periods.

Three years ago this July, I mov... read more
