dirty-dangerous

So I always knew how dangerous the enviroment I work in can be, i mean how can you not. From the day I started working around machines, some 14 years ago now, i have heard the horror stories. Guys getting scalped from running the drill press and having there hair caught. (the long hair days if the 70's and 80's) Fingers lopt off on the bandsaw, shirts getting ripped off and limbs geting pulled into the turning chuck of a lathe.

My style of dress has reflected this enviroment. My clothes when I where any, :) haha, fit close to my body, sorry no machines can catch on a baggy, loose item of clothing from me. Shirt sleeves rolled up always, no jewelery on my neck, wrist or fingers. The long hair was the only dangerous thing about me. I always kpt it tied back nice and proper though.

So anyways. we had an accident at work the other day. Some guy working at a machine he never worked on, lifting a huge slab of steel in a way he never had to lift one before. He didn't tighten the clamp right, tried to be a hero, stood in the wrong spot, well he got hurt. The slab slipped out, crashed against the base of this huge drill press, and fell towards him. He tried to hold back a falling 200+ piece of steel and it. He couldn't it continued to fall and caught him in the shin. knocking him down and peeled a few inches of skin from his leg. He got off lucky.

I worked in the same area he got hurt in for a month. Yes it's dagerous over there. You give your respect to the machine and the power it has. The danger of the job and stay alert and aware.

The work is dirty, dangerous and sometimes the risk are high, but I love what I do and will keep on working as safe as I always have.
