When I'm not moving, I'm not breathing; or at least it feels that way. I have some scoliosis and resultant spinal issues that keep me inspired to move. I started with a healthy spine as a kid; my issues developed in my twenties as a result of performing hard physical labor while being completely ignorant of the need for a limber body in such work. My choreographic style can best be described as a combination of ethnic folk dance forms, Horton technique, and lyrical. That’s probably not enough information, actually. The Philip Glass piece used everything from Barata Natyam to Haitian, Graham technique, tap, and classical ballet. The Hamster Dance borrowed from Irish stepping and club dancing.
