I attended the Suhaila Level 1 workshop in Austin this holiday weekend. Stacey was so gracious and offered me a spot in her show. It was so much fun and the theater had such a good vibe. It smelled like my mother-in-law's home!

My husband and daughter drove down for the show too. How nice to have their smiling faces and clapping hands on the first row.

Turtle Whisperer

My husband called me a turtle whisperer this weekend.

The whole idea behind feeding your turtle in a separate bowl is that she will do her business in the bowl. This way there is much less food residue and poo for the filter. After cleaning Hadiyah's aquarium I was determined to figure out why my turtle would eat in her separate bowl, but would only do her business in her aquarium. I figured it out. I put more water in her bowl so that she would feel covered and there you go - poo in the bowl.

We've exhausted all of the sunning surface options at the local pet store. The next stop has to be a specialty store with huge equipment. I simply cannot believe how big Hadiyah has grown and how much she will still grow. My nephew was over recently and asked "where is your other turtle?" because Hadiyah did not even remotely resemble the turtle he had seen months before.

My turtle is now so big that she doesn't fit on her sunning platform. I can barely get my hand around her to pick her up. We bought a larger filter for her aquarium. It has a waterfall. I thought it might freak out Hadiyah, but she seems to love it. She is always hanging out under the waterfall and sometimes in the morning I see her sleeping there.

My sister says I am giving too much TLC for her to grow so fast.

Getting a little concerned about how I will keep her in her full grown state.....

My husband and I went on a trip to Puerto Rico to celebrate our 20th wedding anniversary. What an unusual place - a study in contradiction. They enjoy great beauty and great poverty. They are hospitable and they are hostile. Horses, goats, feral cats, hermit crabs, and dogs roam. They also have the richest bioluminescent bay in the world.

What an interesting experience.

One I won't forget.

Whoa Nellie! Hadiyah is thriving so well in her industrial complex that we'll need to buy a larger one very soon. She is 4, maybe 5 times larger than she was at the beginning of the year.

After graduating from Linda's basic Middle Eastern dance class in November I've been learning zills. I didn't think belly dancing could be more fun! My husband and daughter almost had to peel me off the ceiling when I came home from my second zills class. Gosh, I enjoy it so much.

Hadiyah is now thriving. She is eating like a horse and pooping again. I wonder too if she is actually growing now. The aquarium was the key. In my research online to find out what to do for her I read that the little plastic bowls with a plastic tree are "death traps" for turtles. I went to the mall where my husband bought Hadiyah to speak to them about better care/educating their customers, but they were gone. I hope of course that they were shut down for selling turtles in death traps. Hope the rest have found an appropriate home.

We spent a long time at the pet store talking to a very helpful and knowledgeable young lady in the reptile section Friday night. We bought $130.00 worth of supplies for an aquarium for Hadiyah. She now has a water filter, water heater, basking lamp, and basking surface. After 48 hours in her new - although harsh looking - environment, she finally ate again last night. Thank goodness!

My turtle seems to be sick or dying. I've had her for 5 months now and she is acting differently. She hasn't eaten in a week and she is laying on her ramp with her head down. I have been reading on the internet about turtles and trying to do things that will help her, but I'm not sure if they are working. I don't guess I'll feel better until I see some little turtle poop indicating she has eaten. If anyone who is a turtle expert reads this, please give me some tips. I don't want her to die.
