Thoughts of Me

Jamaica, Jamaica....

Well, we just returned from Jamaica....
What an awesome learning experience....I do believe that everyone should experience a third world country for themselves once in their lives. I didn't know that Jamaica was how it is. Violence, poverty, anger, and governmental control reign supreme, and yet, at the same time, there is more love from the people than I have seen anywhere! The Jamaican people give and give even if they have nothing to give....and all this to two complete strangers from America.
We were also fortuneate enough to go to BoBo Hill...a community of Rasta in the hills of Jamaica...and we got to worship with them and hear them read the daily Pslams...after we worshiped, we recieved blessings and were able to reason with the Ras priests and the Empress....What an experience!!!
Jamaica is definately not a place to be viewed from the "protection" of a resort..which is what the Jamaican government wants you to see as a foreigner...You need to see the real Jamaica to appreciate the people and the culture...and to help...the next time we go back, it will be on a mission....not vacation....to give you some idea...
School is not free...you have to pay for it, and most prople live below what we would consider poverty level. Hospitals have people sick and dying with cockroaches crawling on them and no pain meds or anything to help them. The police carry M-16s and shotguns and it takes 20 of them to pull one Ras of the street for some reason....The majority of people live in the ghetto and are lucky to have water and electricity...much less jobs and medicine for illness...or education. All this and the current Jamaican government is "Not changing no course!!" Elections are coming up and the sides get guns out to the people so that they can "decrease" the votes for the opposing side....
I am not badmouthing Jamaica, mind you...I simply feel that people need to know how it is there...and not be blinded by the Babylon System's idea of what Americans should and should not see when they visit the country.
Jamaica need a change, and it starts with those of us that are more fortuneate being able to help and spread the word...the people there deserve better, and it has to happen....
Jah bless Jamaica!
Respect and One Love to all who read this....
