In Buddhism we talk a lot about overcoming our "fundamental darkness". What exactly do we mean by that? I think that in Western culture "overcome" tends to mean "destroy". How can we destroy a part of who we are and still remain who we are?

As I thought about this, another thought came to my mind: You can't have darkness without light....so, if I have "fundamental darkness" doesn't that mean that I also have " fundamental light"? Isn't that a part of what our Buddhahood is awakening ... read more

I am an observer. I always have been. Doesn't matter where I am...bar, club, restaurant,mall, anywhere people gather...I observe. Even though I don't typically "blend in" well, I tend to somewhat disappear, it seems, when I'm observing.

When I'm observing I don't just watch people, I also reach out with my heart & mind...trying to connect with someone. As I observe I tend to catch the unguarded moments that we all have. They can be a few seconds to several minutes when we think no one ... read more
