The more I read, the more fascinated I became. This was something almost but not quite entirely unlike anything I had ever done. Hell, unlike anythng I had even heard of. A couple of quotes stuck in my mind: "Trying to explain Burning Man to someone who hasn't been there is like trying to explain 'blue' to a blind person." and "You soon realize that you don't have snap awake and run out of your tent to investigate every explosion you hear." I got the Doherty book and the Joe Winston (couch potato) videos. The more I learned, the more I knew that I needed to go. At this point in my life, I was healthy enough and I could afford the time off and expense. Additionally, the festival seemed to be going through some issues with the founders and the BLM which hinted it won't be there forever. When I first told Susan (my lovely wife) that I wanted to go to this sort of modern art festival, her immediate response was "You're not artistic". Wow.
Or, more acurately, the picture of a kilt that changed my world.

Joining Tribe is a step along a journey that started 2 years ago. It's a journey of discovery - personal, spiritual, creative; a journey that wil hopefully never end. A journey that began with a kilt. After wanting one for several years, and having a friend brave enough to get one first, I finally bought a Utilikilt in April of 2006. Got it just in time for the last weekend of Scarborough Faire. While researching “what does one wear under a kilt?” on Wikipedia, I found this picture. Caption read “Black Rock Ranger wearing Utilikilt”. After the picture popped up a couple of times, I got curious as to ‘what the hell a Black Rock Ranger’ was, I finally clicked the link. That led to "what the hell is Burning Man"? Click....OH MY GOD! The earth shifted slightly on its axis. Or the vector that is me standing on the surface became less perpendicular. Or something. Thank you Teksage for posting your picture to Wikipedia! en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Imag...ekSage.jpg
