Really.

Someone killed themselves.

I wonder if it will matter?

Can you expand on this? We know that each day many kill themselves and yes, it does matter. Are you speaking about somone in particular or is this a philosophical question? Or both?

I just saw what you wrote about the person committing suicide on the playa. Now I get it. That is really interesting, not their pain, of course. I wonder, did they plan on doing it on the playa? If so, there is this strange beauty about it.

Until more facts are known...

Burning Man has not acknowledged this yet...
You can go to the Burning Man tribe and the thread is under ACTUAL Sad News From The Playa. They have some links there.

Basically, the guy hung himself from the center of a two-story dome in a theme camp...and hung there for more than TWO HOURS before anyone had noticed. His friends thought he was doing "peformance art".

The article...Happened yesterday
A Burning Man participant was found dead this morning, hanging from the inside of a two-story high tent, according to Mark Pirtle, special agent in charge for the Bureau of Land Management.

The apparent suicide would be the festival's first in its 21 year history, Pirtle said.

Pershing County coroners are investigating the scene and preparing to remove the body. Pirtle said the man was hanging for two hours before anyone in the large tent thought to bring him down. "His friends thought he was doing an art piece," Pirtle said.

A makeshift morgue is being set up at the law enforcement command center on the outskirts of Black Rock City. Pirtle said authorities can not release information on the dead man's name until next of kin is notified.

The incident has gone unnoticed by most of the 36,000 revelers who have already arrived. The city's population is on pace to hit 46,000, Pirtle said, a fourteen percent increase from last year.

I'm just speechless. My eyes are welled up. The oblivion of people.

Okay, I'm calm now. I shall wait until we hear the truth, or as much of it as we can get before I continue to go on any longer about this topic

Update from this morning
Playa Suicide Update
Pershing County coroners are still trying to indentify a white male in his mid-twenties who killed himself here yesterday.

The Burning Man participant apparently hung himself from a beam inside a tent at the Comfort and Joy theme camp, located at 9:00 and Estuary in Black Rock City.

A spokesperson for the sheriff said the undentified male was unknown to campers staying with Comfort and Joy. The tent houses a bench press and small gym for anyone to use.

Tom Schmidt, a 40-year-old San Francisco resident who goes by the name "Dot" and stays with the camp, confirmed people used the gym while the body was still hanging, unaware it was real.

Schmidt said campers considered closing the tent for the rest of the festival but reconsidered after community support convinced them otherwise.

"As sad as we were, we realized it was his journey, and he chose to end it," Schmidt said. "We've decided to continue."
