Many moons ago and back a couple decades my friends and I tried out backpacking. It was 1977 and a short segment of the Appalachian Trail in Linden, Virginia was calling our names. More specifically the trail partly followed the county dirt road on Blue Mountain and then veered off along another ridge into the forest.
