One Beautiful Girl

Today was a very sad day for Me and Ron
After 8 months of pain medications and joint enhancing drugs our beautiful 13 year old German Shepherd Madeira whom we called Maddie had to be put to sleep.
She was a feisty old Girl but her hips just went out on her,and she was no longer able to walk.
Maddie has a storied life. She was found on a Virginia Beach in January of 2002 by a vacationing Seattle couple shivering in the freezing cold ..someone had battered the hell out of her! she was so abused she was afraid to look a person in the eye.
This couple put her in a Crate and airlifted her back home to Seattle with them. her stay in Seattle was a short one,as Maddie didn't get along with Cats...and one of them met their demise! In May of 2002 a neighbor of a freind had heard about Maddie and thought she'd do wonderful living on 5 acres of private woods down in the tiny town of Lakebay WA with Ron and I.
The couple brought her to our place and I fell in love with this Beautiful old Girl the moment our eyes met! Maddie had been severely abused in her former life..and So was I,I felt an abuse/survivor kinship in her! Maddie met Humper, our massive 112 lb Rottie-shep Mix..and they fell in Love!
It took Ron and I one full YEAR to teach Maddie that Human Hands on her weren't "Hurting Hands" slowly she came around and could trust us.we'd spend our days trotting through the beautiful wooded trails together or lounging in the sun in our south meadow. One year later on July 26th "Buddy" came into our lives. Now little Bud was a headstrong pup back then! first thing he did when he saw Maddie was sniff her..then try to hump her! Maddie spun around and bit Buddy on the lip! She'd have "none of that stuff" from little Bud! Then little Bud grew into a slightly smaller version of Humper,a Lean 97 lbs worth of Rottie-Doberman! Now Maddie had it ALL! Two men who adored her,and two massive Dogs to protect her.
Some of my best times spent with Maddie in the closing months of her life were at the beautiful China Lake conservation area only 8 minutes from our home as can be seen in the photo section of my Tribe Profile.
The BEST years of her life were the nearly 4 years she spent with Ron,myself and her two hero Dogs Humper and Buddy. She will always be remembered and Lovingly Missed by all of Us. She was One Beautiful Girl.

Goodbye Maddie
It was August 72006 when I met Maddie, I came to visit Jake and Ron in their home in Tacoma, which I had the best time of my life. She was a beautiful German Shepard, and I am proud to have been able to meet her in person then one Skype. I will never understand why would anyone would want to abuse such a lovely creature. I am glad that she spent her last years with such a wonderful man, his housemate and her 2 big brothers. Sleep with the Angels Maddie, I will miss you. LOVE your Uncle Michael.

Maddie
Jake, I am truly sorry for your and Ron's lose. I know what is like to have to put down a beloved pet. You can be glad in the fact that your lives crossed and she had the good years with you and Ron that she did. Sounds like you two were kindred spirits. I have to admit you blog brought a tear to my eye. Love you

Oh, man. I don't know what to say.
I'm glad you got to show her that humans all are't all cruel. I lit a candle for her, and you. When I was pre-school, my dad brought home a shepard mix that had been beaten and thrown out of a truck. He was Bs'ing outside with a few of his buds and ran over and got her. Fritzy! She was brain-damaged but was the apitomy of a Shepard! My youngest brother excaped once. I found him with his hand on her back walking down Third street. She was between him and traffic and that was her job. Protecting children. If Fritzy was there, you didn't even try to spank a child. There's memories and then there's Memories. Peace, Blesings, and Wishes of Good Luck. |

Maddie
My heart goes out to you Jake. I, too, know what it is like to lose a beloved pet. I cried for a whole day when my pet cat Jennifer died. She was a very old cat, into her 20's when she died. She was somewhat crochety and ill-tempered, but at times very affectionate. She loved people but hated other cats for some reason. She was also very smart. It seemed like she could 'talk' with her meows.
Rest in Peace Maddie....You have gone to a place of eternal slumber where there is no longer suffering anymore. |
