My Blog
Yaaaaaayyyyyyyy!
Got my cast off yesterday!!!!!! Now I'm in a (removable) boot. Ahhhhhh, heaven. First thing I did was come home and take a shower and scrub that leg and foot and shave that leg. I almost feel human. I can take the boot off at night and I've actually WALKED on that foot without the boot. It works!!!! (But feels weird as can be expected)Saw the x-rays of the shoulder and the ugly ankle and things are healing fine. I start physical therapy on July 22. Doing the one legged happy dance!
What's up?
Broken (and broke) and lonely bellydancer in need of a fix. Help! They say things go in threes...
So here's the third thing. I crashed my 250 MotorScooter (gorgeous little yellow Vespa) on Wednesday afternoon. Thank the gods I was wearing my helmet because I bounced my head off the pavement and I don't even have a headache. SO WEAR YOUR HELMETS EVERYONE. I'm living proof they work.I was turning right from Tudor onto Old Seward, trying to avoid the highway and stay safe (What a laugh). Our wonderful city has not been cleaning the streets as well as they should and I hit a patch of gravel left over from the winter and the scooter slid over. I broke my right ankle (actually, it was turned around headed in the opposite direction- Ouchy) and broke my right clavacle from landing on my shoulder. Luckily I had the leather jacket and jeans and gloves, so would say a bit over dressed for a scooter, but they saved me. No broken skin or road rash. Yes, I remember the whole think, I didn't loose conciousness. There were lots of very nice people who stopped to help and the Medics of Medic5 were great. Now I know how the besieged felt when the calvary came over the horizon.
I'm home now, due for surgery on the ankle on Thursday to put is a plate and screws. Hopefully I'll be dancing again soon. Right now, my biggest challenge is using two crutches with the broken shoulder and getting up and down the stairs. It takes me awhile to get to the phone, so if anyone calls, feel free to leave a message.
Everyone is telling me to get rid of "that damn machine" but I don't really want to. I enjoy riding, immensely and it was my own stupidty that caused the accident. The scooter fared a lot better than me. I was really looking forward to riding this summer because last summer was so crappy. Sigh.
Into Every Life
One of my cats died this morning, shortly after 3:00 a.m.Serena was a longhair black stray that we had picked up, took to Animal Control thinking that someone would come looking for her. When they didn't, we adopted her thru the usual process, they spayed her and microchipped her. She lived with us for about three years, I figure she was about 5 when she died.
She was an unwanted cat before we found her, she'd been someone's pet, already about two, unnutered but hadn't had any babies, fairly clean, if small. I really didn't want another cat (have 2 already and a small dog), but we were responsible for her ending up at the pound, so we had an obligation to give her a home. She was a sweet kitty, a bit of a bully and always hungry. With us she got fat and sassy enough to ambush the dog when he was making a beeline to the door because he had to pee.
She didn't ask for much, a warm place to curl up in the sun and a full dish. At one point, I let Rana take her to live with her, but it didn't work out with Rana's other cat, Pumpkin, so Serena came home.
She kind of had the rough end of things, none of the other cats particulary cared for her, the dog jumped on her whenever I yelled at any of the cats. She wasn't "my baby", but she had a good life, comfortable and not wanting for anything with plenty of scratches behind the ears.
My dog woke me up a little after 3:00 this morning and I heard a strange noise. All the animals were excited and I heard the noise again so I got up to investigate. I guess she had some sort of seizure and the noises I was hearing was her trying to breathe. I got to her in time to be with her, along with the other two cats and the dog for the final minute or so. I kept talking to her. I don't know if she knew we were there or not, her eyes were already glazed. But I like to think that she knew we were there. It was quick. I cleaned her up and wrapped her, taking her down to the garage afterward. I lit a candle for her, hoping that she was finding a nice warm sunny spot. I had to take her to Animal Control to take care of her. I'm unemployed now, so economy is important. She was gone, what happened to the remains isn't really important, as long as they are respectfully handled.
Not the way I would recommend starting the day...
Let's Give it a Try.
To blog or not to blog, that is the question. Whether 'tis nobler to.... Ah the heck with it. Never done this before and don't know if it will continue, but sometimes you just need to reach out.Got one kid downstairs, hasn't stirred out of bed much for the past two days. Had her wisdom teeth pulled on Thursday afternoon and the poor kid is miserable. However, I need to get her moving before she takes root there.
I got fired from my job Thursday of last week, so I'm kind of rattling around trying to figure out what's next. I'm still not sure what I want to do when I grow up. But I'm sure that when the bills start coming in, I'll be screaming.
Oh well, it is Saturday morning and I need to get something accomplished. I have two costumes to make and beading to do and laundry to do and housecleaning to do. Can't sit here all day.
Hope everyone has a good Saturday.
