about me
The universe is just about fine the way it is, but humans make it into a hell or heaven. I do believe there is a greater being we are part of, and survival counts on understanding our part in it. Buddhist and Taoist stories interest me. For instance, Chuang Tsu's story about a worthless mangled gnarly old tree, utterly useless, until the day the woodsman comes, cuts down all the desirable trees, and leaves only the gaunt twisted laughingstock of one.

The life source that has given us birth continues to push forth through all of existence. We are limited spheres of energy in a limitless field. In the "boundless country" of yoga and meditation we seek to see without distortion -- but once in awhile a little wacky tabacky can solve that problem.

Re: Buddhist wisdom. (in peacelovers) I like this. How does the Bhaddekaratta Sutra relate to the Dhammapada with regard to their respective places in the canon?

Hello peacelovers (in peacelovers) Hi peacelovers,

As a new member, I'm writing to introduce myself & share a little bit about my beliefs. I believe it's one of the top priorities of humanity to attain a shift in global consciousness such that war, along with starvation, torture... read more

Re: sincere request and plee (in One Soul) Pierce, I think it is so wonderful that you have put this out there. Are you familiar with child custody mediation? I used to work as an intern, and I've also used one myself during a strange period of estrangement. A good mediator can help you c... read more

Damn we're in a festive mood here as we exult in our candidate's presumptive victory in the Democratic Primaries of the 2008 Presidential Election! Rahm Emanuel himself has now said it. The superdelegates are going to just start piling on as it becomes evident that Obama has won.

At the risk of sounding "hopeful" (what a terrible thing to be!), what really excites me is the hope that Obama really does mean what he says about practicing politics in an entirely different way. I think it's a... read more

When I was 17, I had a dream that influenced the rest of my life.
I was looking at the mountains to the north of my home, the mountains that had always meant a sense of direction to me. All my life those mountains had been north. And I was about to travel beyond them. Suddenly the mountains vanished, and I panicked.

I was terrified that I could no longer see the mountains and thus know which way I was facing or where I was going. I was completely lost. I had no idea where I was. So I t... read more

An old professor who I never liked literally throws a book at me and tells me to look it up. I'm pissed off at him, so I leave the book on the ground and go tell him he's full of shit. Meanwhile the thing I needed to learn has not been learned.

I've been suggesting to myself that I lucid dream every night. In the absence of actually getting lucid, though, I try to go back to sleep to see how else the dream might turn out. So this morning I thought, I know, I'll tell the prof something so ... read more
