<div>My grandfather (the only one I have left) had a heart angiogram this morning and it was bad news. He is being transferred to Baptist hospital and will have open heart by-pass surgery tomorrow morning. Grandpa's L and R coronary arteries are blocked as well as some of the distal coronary arteries.

WTF.. ;o/ People please pray for him if you are into that.</div>

<div>Glam in the Oasis!
“ Glam Battle 08' ”
February 9th, 2008
Please come and join Dalloua Dance Co as they host the 4th annual Glam in the Oasis Dance Battle Competition and Show!!

This year let us delight you with a new twist to our Night in the Oasis theme and a new twist on the competition circuit by introducing; “Dance Battle” competition in the round, an audience choice competition.

Haven’t you ever gone to a competition and wondered “Why the heck they pick that girl to win? I wish that we could have put some input on which we liked and enjoyed watching dance.” Well now is your chance! Come out and tell us who you liked! This is a chance for the community to choose those dancers they like to see perform and have them rewarded for it! Help us by crowning the winner of the “Glam Battle” in the Oasis. The winners will awarded with a trinket by which they can announce to the whole world that they are "Glam".

Now dancers don’t despair we’ve thought of you too! We will have several judges in the audience whose job is solely to give you feedback; by taking the pressure off for the judges, so they can give you the constructive feedback you need and deserve to grow as a dancer entertainer and performer!

Join us in the splendid atmosphere of Java Cafe while getting into the spirit of the Oasis! Sit back, and be enchanted by enjoyable Middle Eastern music and performances, while sipping some of Java Cafe's ice-cold beers on tap.

Be carried away by Java Cafe's great selections of coffees. Get there early for their made to order sandwiches, we can't promise they won't contain a love potion while your watching these wonderful performers mesmerize you with their talent.

After enjoying all that we have to offer, share your feelings on which one you thought was the most glamorous of the evening

Entry into the competition for the Dancers and Audience members is free, however donations are always welcome. So don’t hesitate to join us at our lively event!

Java Cafe
(916) 961-2739

Eatme Drinkme Bloodmoon Afterparty Review

<a href="http://people.tribe.net/dalloua/blog/4ee20a62-804b-45c2-9f1e-743dab41ff64"> <img class=" picThumb" src="http://images.tribe.net/tribe/upload/photo/170/c4f/170c4f9b-6e3f-4c6a-8f14-a2b0ddff9aab.thumb" width="65" height="66" alt="" />
    </a>
<div>I thought that I would be late to the Eatme Drinkme Afterparty because I had to perform in Petaluma before that show, Fortunately I was mistaken and was on time. :) Thank gawd. :)

Amy asked me to open the show so I did so in all my glitter and glam glory :) I was in burgundy and gold cab costume and had a blast dancing to impromptu music from the DJ Amar. I thought he was never going to stop the music though lol :) and I ended up leaving the stage very gracefully, before I out shimmied my butt. :) Many thanks to Sundara Varna who were sitting in the front row who let me flirt and wink at them. It's audience members like them that keep you out there dancing more and more.

next up was Sundara Varna, very cute in their fary outfits. They slink and moved across the floor in wonderful patterns showing the true strength of ATS impromptu cue dancing. It was great.

Then was Lorraine, who I just have to say I love to watch. I remember seeing her for the first time two Rakkasah's ago and thinking "Oh good lord, she's hawt" I know my sister in law (a beginning belly dancer at the time) was drooling and well I have to say she's just amazing to watch up close and personal. Her hair was done up in cool looking white and black braids and she was all poise and grace. It was wonderful to watch her expressions though out her short dance.

Then was UNMATA. What more can I say than what I already haven't... ok maybe... It's good to go down the rabbit hole... :op Amy is an amazing Choreographer and her girls are just as stunning. Thank you so much for putting together such a great group of performers and a great line up of dancers. I love you girls.

Then there is the most wonderful and graceful Zaheea. :) I've known Zaheea for going on 9 years or so (holy shit lol) and have seen her in alot of her "fazes" to what she has evolved to now. She was the first Cab dancer who I had ever seen who made me want to actually dance Cab, I also got my first cab costume from her oh so many years ago. :) isn't that funny. :) Her performance was wonderful. She's got great locks and pops and can do these kick ass walking shimmies that make her float on the floor. It's great to watch, and it's no wonder why she's #1 in the Sacramento area when it comes to Cab dancers.

Samantha Riggs and Boom Boom Bollywood put on a great performance. I have to say this was the first time I actually got to see them dance and I was thrilled. I love watching them bounce and move and do the bollywood movements. it reminds me so much of my time doing Classical Indian and just made me smile. They have such great attitudes and it was wonderful to watch them dance.

Jill Parker of Ultra Gypsy and Kristen Wilson closed the show with a fun duet with trays and a fantastic drum solo ending. I have seen Jill perform several times and it just amazes me what she has evolved into. Her style is very lythe and stunning. Not many can perform like she does and look like it take no effort. Its truly fun to watch.

I had a blast that night, and it was definitely worth the drive and panic of maybe being late. Thank you Amy and UNMATA for inviting me and thank you for always being so much fun. Oh and Luna, thanks for letting me give you back your pants... muahhh...

Edited to add: I can't believe I forgot the "dance of the old witches!" Amy and Shelly put on a great special show of two old hags dancing ATS style. It was funny, amusing and damned creepy at the same time. It totally reminded me of two old italian women dancing with shawls and and hair wraps and making me think also of Hansel and Grettel... ;op Love you Amy!

PS the picture shown is the scary boy in the buttless shorts... is that real?</div>

    </a>
<div>Oh my gawd what a great night! I just have to start by saying that. :) I'm going to try and do a breakdown of the whole night of all the performers i got to see (though I did miss some people because of costume changes. ;O( )

Folk Infusion and Dalloua Dance opened the show, We did a great Eqyptian number and it was a blast, my husband came in and did Tatib and that was just great to watch and I think he got the best reaction from the crowd than he's ever gotten before. :) I'm so proud. Samirah Isvari and I just had a great time performing that piece and I swear that we've done it the best that time than ever before. I really felt like I knew the piece and I wasn't just stumbling over it.

Dalloua's Adrienne performed for the 2nd time solo, in her beautiful blue beaded costume she made. She did a great job even though she was more than nervous and was slightly shaking in the beginning. :) she had a blast, and you could just see the personality bouncing off this girl. :) She's HAWT. :) I can't wait for more coming from her, I'm so proud...

Unfortunately I didn't get to see Mystic Caravan perform, though I was told that they did very well and had a great time by their teacher Gina. She is such a trooper she went out there and did a mini solo on the fly to give us some time because we had some cancellations. :) such a great woman. :)

I have always loved watching Rayna dance. She can do some amazing stuff with her sword. She's also a kick ass dancer and right up there with the professionals. She helped me out by coming and performing that night with only 5 hours prep time. Now that is what I call a pro in my book. :) She danced to some of my favorite music that I had not heard in a long time. ;)

Nasiha did her first solo performance ever, and picked some "interesting" music. lol. :) I have to say that I was very proud of the fact that even though not everything worked out in the costume department for her, she still went out and performed and did very very well for her first time dancing. :)

Dalloua's Sapphire Lotus came out and performed a Duet skirt routine that was just beyond cute. I'm so proud of my Samirah and Adrienne, they have come such a long way and are doing amazingly well. :) after their little duet, they did "Thriller" oh yes, Thriller. I was laughing so hard you really have no idea. Sometimes it scares me when my girls tell me "no you can't see it" but good lord it's always good when they do let me see it. :) They had the crowd rolling on the floor laughing they were so funny. :) it was grand. and I couldn't be more proud of them. Alyssa did great for such short prep time. :) and I just have to say they did a great job finding the music and Choreography and adapting it to bellydance. It was just great. :)

Isvari's group Folk Infusion did a great number. I loved watching Avi and Dyana do their Zill routine. they have done sooo well. I remember Dy telling me "oh I'm not going to dance ever" yeah right... ;o) It was great to see Jieda doing Gaudra, good lord it gave me goose bumps. :) I know that the group just loved her and the whole experience. It's nice seeing a crowd get involved especially when they should with such a spiritual dance. Isvari came out and did a Bedouin welcoming dance, and I just have to say it's sooooooo good to see Isvari dancing again. She is really my mentor, and my muse. I couldn't have had a better foundation of belly dance than from her. She is probably one of the most inspiring dancers I ever see. it's wonderful.

My Slava is just Amazing. There is just not much else to say to that. :) She has gotten SO good at her pop's and lock's it makes me bounce in my seat to see it. She has come a long way from that very shy girl who didn't know how to dance and was scared to try. :) I am so happy that she's decided to stick to it and is even working with the Onyx Lotus to do a mini group number. Thank you Slava, you make me feel blessed to teach.

Then there was Kali Aditi, they did a bollywood fusion number that was just adorable. I couldn't have been happier watching them. They are a mother and daughter group who just looked so cute in their Semi matching outfits and their expressions were just wonderful. I got to speak with their teacher, and she is probably one of the nicest women I have met recently. I am so happy that they took the time to drive up from Stockton to dance at our show. Thank you.

UNMATA just blows my mind, every time I see them dance I want to cry. They are just amazing. I have said it once and I will again. I love these guys. :) THank you so much for coming and dancing at Oasis. "puff puff pass it along girls" *winks*

Being one of the youngest professional dancers I know ,Lu Lu is just amazing to watch. She's now going to Davis UC and so I hope to be able to see her many more times now. :) She's got spunk, and the energy to go along way. She does these amazing full body frezzes that just makes your heart stop. :) though I have to say that her "flirtatious" nature with the group helps a ton. ;) and she just made everyone goo goo :) it was great. lol :)

There is so much I could say about Mandanah. She's my "kick my butt" buddy, she's a phenomenal dancer. She's Shabnam's duet partner. and she has more energy than 20 people put together. And good lord can that girl zill. lol. :) She just keeps getting better and better and damn that girl rocks the house!

How much I love my Samirah, She's my assistant director, and my right hand woman. I really couldn't get ANY of this done without her. She is the one who makes sure that on the day/night of the events everything runs smoothly. She's the one who makes sure everyone is happy. She is the one who makes sure I can do what I need to to be a host. It's wonderful. Her performance that night was a new style for her. It was slinky and goth-like (got to love Halloween) and graceful. :)

I'm not sure what to say about my performance other than it felt good. :) I love dancing with Isis wings. Absolutely love it. My new black and gold costume is really really pretty. I love how it moves and how I look in it. And well, who dosnt love Onigo Boingo?

All and all it was a great weekend and I couldn't be happier with how it went. :)</div>

Why?

<div>Belly Dance and Burlesque, while I think both are HIGHLY cool. why combine the two, after we're trying sooo hard to get people to step away from the stripper mentality?

Before you yell at me that Burlesque is not stripping, let me ask you this "Do you take clothes off?"

Please dont get me wrong, I have SEVERAL friends who do Burlesque dancing, I would even like to do it (if I could convince my hubby to let me) however, why combine the two? why even "hint" at it being associated.... it just boggles my mind.

Oh and if your going to make a seething comment on this entry, realize I will delete it, I dont need the negitivity I'm being polite here...

<div>This is the "outcome" of a discrimination against a bellydancer in her work place.

**IF YOU WERE ONE OF THE PEOPLE THAT FORWARDED MY ORIGINAL E-MAIL TO YOUR GROUP LIST OR POSTED IT TO A WEBSITE PLEASE FEEL FREE TO DO SO AGAIN. I GOT A LARGE RESPONSE FROM THIS AND WANT TO THANK EVERYONE**

Hi everyone.

It has been a while and I hope you remember me. I am the dancer that faced losing her job over dance. First, I want to say thank you again to everyone who responded. I received literally hundreds of e-mails from dancers around the world. Technology is amazing but even more amazing is the incredible community of Middle Eastern dancers and musicians we are a part of.

It has taken a long time for the final result but here is the situation and how it played out:

For those who didn't know, I am a Realtor. My problem came up when I attempted to change offices, leaving my current office and moving to the new office opening near my home. I was very excited to find out my friend (ha ha) Rhonda would be the new Broker. It wasn't until I sat down for my interview that she stated she could not interview me because I dance. You see, because I thought she was friend, and before I knew she would be the new Broker I sent her a donation letter for a Cystic Fibrosis fundraiser being planned by a local dancer in Atlanta. I always kept dance and work separate, this was not a company wide mailing. It only went to a handful of people who I thought were appropriate to send to.

Well, quite simply I was speechless. All I could say was "what?" and "huh?". I just simply couldn't comprehend what she had said! Although I plead my case, Rhonda would hear none of it. She said at that point she could not hire me and would take the matter to our CEO.

Some weeks later our CEO, Jenny, (a compassionate open minded person by all accounts) phoned me and basically took me apart. I have been deemed unacceptable. This is what she said ...

"I don't care if you call it Israeli Folk dance, Ethnic dance, Middle Eastern dance or Belly Dance. It is all the same. And although it may be acceptable at other companies it is completely unacceptable in my company! I will not make Rhonda hire you but since you have been here almost two years I will not make John (my current Broker) fire you. I will leave that up to him. However, in the future if my company name is ever associated with you and this dance I will fire at that time!"

Well, I was dumbstruck again! It took me another three weeks to get up the courage to face my Broker, John. John knew from the day he hired me that I danced and he had no problem with it. He asked me repeatedly to stay with him. He said the whole thing was ridiculous and that he supported me completely. He also couldn't understand what the issue was.

Unfortunately, after the shock wore off I came to the realization that since the money rolls uphill I could not stay with the company. I would not knowingly or willingly put another dime in Miss Jenny's pocket. Because I am of Sephardic Jewish heritage some of the dance I participate in is part of my culture and I am totally insulted that someone would call me unacceptable in this day and age in the U.S. Can you imagine? I was floored.

Meanwhile, I am now ready to give out my ex-company info so you know who not to do business with in the future. I can't tell anyone what to do with this information but I can tell you there is very minimal religious or cultural diversity within the company.

Some of the e-mails I received in response to my original mailing suggested I may have violated policies at my company which may have prompted this. I was not "moonlighting", dance has been just exercise and love for the past several years. I did not violate any company policies nor was this stated as reason for this action.

Anyway, thank you all again for your overwhelming support. I will let you know where I land when the dust settles.

Sincerely yours, TEZRA / Terri J. Shaw
