"Who are you?" Brahma asked the Swan who appeared before he and his sons.
"The question itself is confused. If the question refers to the undivided and imperishable Atman, which is the Presence present everywhere, How can I individuate myself to answer it? If I try to answer, What is it that I can make distinct from the Presence in order to answer? However, if the question relates to the body, since all bodies ~ whatever their form ~ are composites of the five tattvas and are therefore in truth the same, it still remains unanswerable ~ a mere affection of speech. Recognize this truth with a clear understanding: All the senses perceive only me. I alone exist. Nothing else exists besides me. You, who are being born again, must know that the mind is drawn to objects through the senses, and in turn these objects influence the mind. Thus both the body and the mind appear to cloak the Jiva: But in reality both are the undivided Atman. Therefore, cease to identify yourself with the mind, which is constantly drawn to objects through the senses, and which then gets caught up in these objects.
