<div>Let's all get up and dance to a song
It was a hit before your mother was born
Though she was born a long, long time ago
Your mother should know
Your mother should know

Lift up your hearts and sing me a song
It was a hit before your mother was born
Though she was born a long, long time ago
Your mother should know

<div>You see, it's my fate to be part of someone
As a true friend is part of me

You know that there's so much
That, little girl, we've got to tell each other
About the whole world
and most especially one another

And it's hard, yes it is
It's hard, yes it is
And I wonder
I wonder, could it be a dream?

And you know that the self-made man
Is truly shadowed
He knows he's no one but who he wants to be

So, while he's still the same
You've got to tell me, babe
Is it your fate to be part of anyone?

And it's hard, yes it is
It's hard, yes it is
And I wonder
Yes and I wonder could it be a dream?

perfect rainy day music

<div>So, what do you listen to when it's a beautiful, rainy day and you're in a good mood?

1. Booker T. &amp; The M.G.'s--Stax Profiles
Perfect laid back instrumental music! These guys defined soul, they had to in order to back up Otis Redding and Sam &amp; Dave! They also really had defined a style with taste and economy. Highlights on this CD: "Time Is Tight", "Burnt Biscuits", "Jellybread", a rare live version where they really tear it up with their signature classic "Green Onions" and, finally, their version of "Something" which kind of sounds like Muzak, but a lot hipper!

2. Neil Young--The Old Laughing Lady
The perfect song for driving down a dark highway in the middle of the night. Moody, eerie. Just listen to the studio version off of "Neil Young", you'll see...

3. Dave Brubeck--Take Five
The ultimate hipster's song fit for any occasion when you want to chill

4. Bobby Darin--You're The Reason I'm Living or Eighteen Yellow Roses
Hey, what can I say! I come from the old school of hip! Cheesy or schmalzy, you might say? Perhaps, but you have your little secret guilty pleasures, too, buddy!

5. Miles Davis--Kinda Blue
Another album that fits any mood or any occasion. Try it out! You can either listen to it note-for-note, or you can put it on in the background and just let it take you on a groove.</div>

<div>by Bob Dylan

My love, she speaks like silence
Without ideals or violence
She doesn't have to say she's faithful
If she's true, like ice, like fire

People carry roses
And make promises by the hours
My love, she laughs like the flowers
Valentines can't buy her

In the dimestores and bus stations
People talk of situations
Read books, repeat quotations
Draw conclusions on the wall

Some speak of the future
My love, she speaks softly
She knows there's no success like failure
And that failure's no success at all

The cloak and dagger dangles
Madames light the candles
In ceremonies of the horsemen
Even the pawn must hold a grudge

Statues made of matchsticks
Crumble into one another
My love winks, she does not bother
She knows too much to argue or to judge

The bridge at midnight trembles
The country doctor rambles
Bankers nieces seek perfection
Expecting all the gifts that wise men bring

The wind howls like a hammer
The night blows, raining
My love, she's like some raven
At my window with a broken wing

<div>You've got a job that you don't really like
I guess sometimes it keep you up at night
The coffee's bitter at the corner store
You'd think you wouldn't notice anymore
But with the traffic everything is worse
Sometimes you think it's all an evil curse
You go to work and try to stay awake
And all for minimum wage

That's life
Suck it up you only get one!

You watch a clock until the day is done
Seems like you hardly ever see the sun
The coffee's bitter in the conference room
But not as bitter as you
Just when you thought it wouldn't ever end
You find a ticket in the paper bin
You never thought that you could scratch and win
But every now and again

That's life
Suck it up you only get one!

Limit one per customer
Cash value void of a cent
Redeemable before you die

That's life
Suck it up you only get one!</div>

Lover, You Should Have Come Over

<div>Looking out the door
I see the rain fall upon the funeral mourners
Parading in a wake of sad relations
As their shoes fill up with water
Maybe I'm too young
To keep good love from going wrong
But tonight you are on my mind, so
You never know

Broken down and hungry for your love
But no way to feed it
Well, are you blind?
Child, you know how much I need it
Too young to hold on
And too old to just break free and run

Sometimes a man gets carried away
He feels like he should be having these thoughts
I'm much too blind to see the damage I've done
Sometimes a man must wait to find he really has no one

So, I wait for you
And I burn
Will I ever see your sweet return?
Oh, will I ever learn?
Oh, lover you should have come over
It's not too late

Lonely is the room
The bed is made
The open window let's the rain in
Burning in the corner
Is the only one who dreams he had you with him
My body turns and yearns
For a sleep that won't ever come

It's never over
My kingdom for a kiss upon her shoulder
It's never over
All my riches for my smiles when I slept so soft against her
It's never over
All my blood for the sweetness of her laughter
It's never over
She's the tear that hangs inside my soul forever

Maybe I'm just too young
To keep good love from going wrong

Lover, you should have come over

I feel too young to hold on
But much too old to just break free and run
Too deaf, dumb and blind to see the damage I've done
Sweet lover, you should've come over
'Cause it's not too late

<div>So, some of the music I love is pretty quirky (i.e. anything by Frank Zappa; Giles, Giles &amp; Fripp). A good friend of mine burned me a bunch of CD's of soundtracks to a bunch of Italian films, a lot of them being music from mystery, horror and exploitative German "Report" flicks. Has anyone else heard this stuff? It's so great and some of it is so cheesy! It's like a mish-mash of lounge music, sixties psychedelic pop and progressive rock.</div>

<div>Well, my band's breaking up, my job's at a stand still. So, the question going through my head right now is: what do I do now?

I do have several opportunities available. There's a band in Chicago I jammed with in the holidays that would love to have me. There are several friends in Ann Arbor, Saline, Ypsi and Detroit I'd love to jam with soon.

Where is my life going?</div>

<div>Well, amongst the new developments happening for me in the new year, I have applied for a new position where I work: there's an opening for an estimator. I need a change and I like a challenge--I love to learn new things and what I'm doing right now (laminating book covers), I feel I've reached an impasse. There really isn't any possibility for me to learn anything new in the department I'm currently working. What the estimator does is they take calls from current or prospective customers, who say what type of book they're looking to publish. The estimator gives a quote and if the customer decides they would like to have us make the book for them, the estimator gives the quote and the appropriate info to the planners and account reps, who then get all the materials and requests together and send the order out to the production areas. Then, once the job is done, the estimator gets the information and sends the bill.

I think I'd be able to take up this position; it definitely suits my interests and my capabilities. Sometime soon, I'm gonna go in for an interview, so wish me luck!

What I did on my vacation...

<div>First off, I'd like to apologize for not having been around, I've been in Chicago for the last couple of weeks, enjoying the holidays with my sister and her fiance. Secondly, I'd like to wish everyone a Happy New Year.

Anyway, most of the vacation was pretty laid back, spent most of it sitting around, but once in a while I did a little something special. For instance, one night I went to this little bar that's just up the corner from my sister's apartment and there happened to be a blues band playing, they let me get behind their drums and jam with them on a few tunes, we started with "I Feel Good" as a little tribute to James Brown and we also played "Whipping Post" by the Allmans.

There were a few times I went out with sis and future bro in law and we had a nice dinner and we'd go to see a movie, like "Children Of Men", or "Notes On A Scandal", or "Rocky Balboa" (which is a lot better than you would expect).

I spent some time walking around and checking out the various record stores and book shops. Last Thursday, we all went to see Buddy Guy play at his club, Legends. He was amazing! What a soulful, passionate performer! After the show, we even shook hands with him, chatted for a minute and he autographed our CD's and shirts!

Not a bad trip, eh?</div>

What would you do?

<div>So, as I'm listening to a recording of Bob Dylan playing the Philharmonic Hall in NYC, I'm thinking of a little meeting I had the other day. So, I'm just gonna get my thoughts out.

So, over the weekend, my band had played a benefit to donate canned goods to the Salvation Army, which had been organized by the bass player. Over the course of the day, I helped him out with whatever he needed and we generally had a blast the whole time. Yet, my ex showed up. She kept coming up to me and saying hello, asking how I was. For a little background, I broke up with her back almost a year ago. Now, let's jump back in time to eleven, maybe twelve months ago when the breakup occurred: when I initially told her I couldn't go on dating her, she instantly hung up before I could even explain myself, then called back later that day after I had gone to work, leaving quite a nasty message on the answering machine telling me to leave her alone and to not even bother her. A couple weeks later, she relays a message through her best friend (the bass player's step-daughter) apologizing and asking to start over; the ex then goes on to start blaming the aforementioned friend and a few other friends of mine. Does this not seem a little immature of her? It seems to me to be so. So, I had no interest in "starting over". But, in my reply, I was a little more polite about it.

So, I see her during the show this past weekend and she finally allows me the chance to explain myself. After my band finished playing our set, she and I sat down at a table in another section of the bar, where it's not as loud. To answer all her questions, I gave her all the answers from my side, again being polite and cordial, because I don't want a big scene and I don't want to spoil anyone's night, either. What would you say? Well, have you ever dated someone for about a month and just not felt entirely compatible with that other person? I mean, you feel fond of the person and initially you were attracted to the person and really wanted something happen, but after four or five times out, you're sure there could be no relationship--he or she just isn't what you expected at all. That's how I felt. I told her right out front, I completely honest; I told her that things went way too fast and that I felt she wanted everything all at once. I can't just jump into a situation all at once like that, not when it comes to relationships, I take my time, let it happen naturally, because if I try to force anything, I'm faking it and I certainly don't feel fulfilled and I'd end up putting her through hell. I don't deserve that, neither does she. Just as I'm not the type to give my heart easily, nor am I the type of person to just sleep with any person I've just met, either...there has to be something more to it than just that, I'm guided by my feelings and I have to know the woman I'm associated with, that way there is a trust established and she knows that I care enough to take the time out to get to know her. Now, if I'm expected to respect the woman in question, then it's not totally out of the question to ask for the same kind of respect in return, is it? I can't compromise my own integrity and strength of character for someone who wants to date one day, have sex that night, be going steady the next day and be married by month's end! Would you?

So, then she starts telling me that she's changed and how much I'm afraid to be hurt by her and that she wouldn't do that this time around and if we were to get back together again, she would slow down for me. In my mind, the danger lights started flashing, whenever I hear someone say all the things that she said just then, I know that nothing's changed. And then she proceeds to ask if I could give her a second chance, to which I honestly answered no. I told her general rule no. 1 in my book, which is, no second chances! There are several reasons, the most important one being that a long time ago I was in the situation where I tried keeping the love alive and giving a past girlfriend a second chance and we ended up being even more miserable than we were the first time around, which I couldn't do to anyone else and I don't deserve to go through that, myself. I also told her that if we started over again, it really would happen the way it did before. I had to reiterate to her the fact that I honestly just don't believe a good, solid relationship would come through for us. There are lots of other reasons, too, which I didn't go into because it wouldn't have been appropriate: she's just too immature for me, plus the fact that in that conversation she was pulling the same crap that she did when we were going out, which was she kept bugging me and pestering me and pushing until she either got an answer or until she got what she wanted. I must admit, after a while I got quite angry with her, especially when she started telling me that I was just living in the past and that I broke the relationship at a bad time and that she didn't need to go to work with a broken heart and that I didn't give her a good enough chance. I simply replied that that's as may be, but I told her that saying all that isn't going to convince me to change my mind, nor is it going to change the fact that it happened the way it happened. It's over. And I told her that I did what I kne was right and that what she calls "living in the past" is what I believe to be a good indication that I've learned from my mistakes.

What would you do or say in that kind of situation? How would you act if you finally got a chance to confront your ex with your feelings?

Well, I did what I knew was the right thing, then and now. People can think what they want, they can call me old fashioned, they can say that I'm "afraid" or "living in the past", that's fine. You can think what you want. But something that I know in my heart is that I can't put myself out for a woman for all the wrong reasons, I can't put myself in a situation that would be totally bad for myself or her--I just can't be anything less than honest, nor can I be involved with someone that I just don't feel anything toward. I'd rather be alone than be in a bad relationship!</div>

The Who have finally done it!

<div>As most people know, I'm a HUGE fan of The Who, especially Keith Moon, one of the greatest drummers in the world. I am so excited that they've finally released the new album that they've been working on for such a long time! It's hard to believe that Townshend and Daltrey have been working on this at various stages for the past six years!!!!!!!!!!! And what's happened since then? Well, since they're "reunion" in 1999 and the subsequent successful tours in late '99 through 2001, Roger Daltrey, Pete Townshend and John Entwistle decided that it was high time to put together a new album. With John Bundrick helping on keyboards and Zak Starkey (Ringo's son!) on drums (and their best post-Moon drummer yet), they regained their fire--and let me say, I saw them perform in Detroit, late June, 2000, what a show! Unfortunately, Entwistle died two years later, however, the original surviving two decided that their band still exists, no matter how many people are still around and hired Pino Palladino and Pete's brother, Simon, to round out the touring band and continued to tour in honor of their fallen comrade. And then there were several announcements that The Who had started recording and several follow-up reports that the project had stalled. Then, Pete announced on his own website this new project that he had been working on for a while, called, "The Boy Who Heard Music"; at the time, Townshend was unsure what he would do with it, whether it would be a solo project or something he would pursue with The Who.

So, now, finally, after all this time and after all the tours within the last four years, "Endless Wire" has been released. It's exciting and features a new, mature, musical approach for Townshend and Daltrey. The first half is the, I guess you could say, album portion; the second half is the new mini opera, "Wire &amp; Glass". Personally, I'm still trying to make up my mind about this new album. I'm somewhat confused. It's a far better and more natural sounding album than their last two ("Face Dances", "It's Hard"). For me the two concerns are this: sometimes with the new musicians involved, I get the feeling I did back in the eighties, when The Who tried to continue after Keith Moon died, the thought pervading my brain being, "Is this really The Who? Or are they pretending to be The Who? It doesn't sound as if it has the same magic that The Who used to have...", let's face it, when Moon passed soon after "Who Are You", a lot of the energy and magic had gone and now that Entwistle has passed the sound has changed that much more and though Palladino is a very good bassist, there aren't many others that can suitably replace The Ox; the second thought being, "Am I ready to accept this new mature direction to The Who's music?" I can expect it in Townshend's solo endeavors, but with The Who, I always think of them as being loud and rambunctious, more badder than even The Rolling Stones, with the recent Cream reunion, I could accept that their musicianship had matured because they have always been musicians and didn't really build an image, but now the Wholigans from Shepherd's Bush have adopted this new image of gracefully aged musicians and it's weird to me. Not bad, just disorienting. But, life changes, it always does.

I would suggest buying this if you'd like something different and thought provoking!</div>

Bring Your Canned Goods!

<div>Hello! Been really busy for us in our personal loves, but as far as the band goes, as things have been slowing down, we've been writing more new songs and we're quite excited about them!

Till the time when things pick back up and we can show off our new tunes, we would like to announce the last gig of the year for our band, 31 Seconds:

AC has organized a benefit show tomorrow, Dec. 9, at the Pine Tree in Jackson. It's a canned food drive, which starts at about noonish and goes on all day! If you're in Michigan and anywheres close to Jackson, come see us! The place is on Page Ave., right as you get into the city limits. We'll be on stage at 9 pm, but come over earlier and stay late so you can see all the great talent in the area.

For admission, it's $5 straight cash, or $3 and two canned goods, or you can even get in with five canned goods and no charge! At the end of the night, after the show, we'll take all the proceeds and all of the canned goods and give it to the Red Cross!

It's a win-win for all of us! So, what are you waiting for? Come to the show!</div>

10 Reasons I Like Enterprise

<div>Geez, there are a lot of Trek bashers amongst the Trekkies! I know that Enterprise is a point of contention for a lot of the fans and the media made a big deal about the controversy the show caused and the less-than-stellar ratings it had and the supposed "franchise fatigue" which became quite an overused sentiment within the last couple of years. But, the ONE thing which has been overlooked has been the fact that for as many fans that hated Enterprise, there were just as many of us who loved it. My friends and I watched it all the time and we would talk with each other every week about the episodes we saw. Personally, if I'm interested in something, which is either critically good or bad, I'll be entertained by it and that's all I want--I'm not picky about it. Everybody has their opinions and I respect that; if you didn't like ENT, that's cool, I'm not gonna flame you for it. However, I respectfully ask that if you hated this particular spinoff, then please, don't read this thread and reserve your thoughts for the other threads.

This one, I thought, I'd do something positive, start a thread for those of us who actually enjoyed Enterprise. So, here are the ten reasons why I thought it was cool:

10. The premise--ok, so not everyone is keen on prequels, but for me it's Star Trek, I'll watch it anyway. I think it's cool to have a look at what happened before the already established timeline and to see the first human adventures in deep space.

9. The effects--As always, the best sci-fi effects on television. Setting the standard yet again.

8. The aliens--yet again, we saw the aliens that we saw 40 years ago. Maybe not all of 'em, but all the important ones.

7. The fourth season--all the episodes tied in with what happened in the next two centuries!

6. Scott Bakula--the guy has his sci-fi acting credentials and he made a cool pre-Kirk. At some points, Capt. Archer took it to the wall even moreso than Kirk or Picard!

5. That one about The Augments--hey, you had Brent Spiner, you had humor, you had an intelligent story, you had kick-ass action, you had Orions and even references foreshadowing Khan, what more could you want?

4. Andorians--a great revisitation of a particularly mysterious race, with some great enhancements to the makeup and Jeffrey Combs' portrayal of the militant but open-minded Commander Shran made for elements which added up to some of the best Trek gold

3. The Enterprise herself--not a bad ship for a prototype!

2. Treknology in it's infancy--I really enjoyed the fact that these human pioneers were not only getting used to space travel and new alien races, but they were coping with how to use tools that are now taken for granted, like phasers, warp speed, transporters, etc.

1. T'Pol--the best alien babe EVER! I'd like to P'onn Farr with her!

<div>...but a person can be forgiven a little vanity on his or her birthday, can't they?

Yep, I've turned 30 years old today. Funny, I don't feel any different than I did ten years ago. Some have asked me on my thoughts and reflections. Honestly, I haven't thought about it too much. I would like to say this, though: looking back, I've accomplished a lot. I consider myself very lucky, haven't screwed my life up (at least not too badly *LOL*), plus I'm in a good position that others may envy, where I can still do all the things I want to. And I feel I'm still pretty young and I've got plenty of time to do all those things.</div>
