THE TRUTH IS NOT WHAT YOU THINK HAPPENED

The Dresden Dolls

Last night I got free tickets to the Dresden Dolls concert, in my pre-mom days it would have been a given that I would see them, but now I rarely go out. My former life of going out 3 or 4 nights a week seems less fun than staying home with the kid does now. As I've said before: "Bands? I've seen bands." Lots and lots and lots of bands. I would never drink, only on occasion would I go with anyone, and ALWAYS come home alone (by choice - I was a pansexual celebate for nearly 8 years). I definitely went for the music. In high school Rachel Rudnick described me as "the only person I know who goes to punk shows for the music". Alas, or thank god, those days are behind me.

But last night I felt compelled to see the new hotness, everyone has been telling me to see the Dresden Dolls for ages now, and the free tickets made it impossible to say no. So I left my boys at home, many thanks to my boyfriend for being a supportive partner and good dad, and got all dressed up for a night on the town.

I was slightly disappointed that the crowd wasn't more resplendant with their wardrobes, I was expecting a goth Versailles, but at least a few were well painted - KSea of course, and I sat with Scott, Indra, a stunning girl named Gilgamesh, and another lovely whose name was immediately forgotten due to the amazing headpiece she had on.

The band did not disappoint - really great set - and the circus/vaudeville entertainment that appeared during certain songs was well rehersed and appropriate to the music (except for one rather odd bit where 2 girls pretended to be pregnant, and barely moved except to hit each other's bulging stomachs with hammers and then throw baby parts into the crowd).

Tonight I went looking for some good DD videos on YouTube and found this amazing gem: someone made a video to the song Perfect Fit with Harry Potter footage. Really worth watching... also there are some other videos made by the band or their fans which are fantastic. If you haven't heard of Dresden Dolls they are quite unique (well... they are quite like local songstress Jill Tracy... so if you like them there is a small genre), and well worth investing in.

www.youtube.com/watch A video made by the Dresden Dolls, I've actually met girls who are like this.

I'd love to hear about tonight's show if anyone saw it.....
