I don't know what the average life expectancy of a goldfish is, but my betta fish, the one I've had for 2 and a half years, just died! For the record: fish don't float they sink!

They float at first, but after a while they will sink...just for the record.

RIP Sashimi

Sashimi sunk, and stayed sunk until this morning, then when I came home from work he was floating... I waited before I flushed him just to make sure he was really dead, cause when he was first laying sideways on the floor of the bowl I went over and screamed at him and he woke up, he did a bunch of flips then kept sinking and did that over and over for a few minutes, then he sunk for all eternity! :(

My condolences,

You must have taken very good care of him because according to About.com they only live for one or two years, even in the wild. Mine died a few months after I got him. I'm not sure if I did something wrong or he was just old when I got him considering where I got him (super sketchy dollar store)

I wonder if he sank because betas are predators and are all muscle, whereas goldfish are scavengers and are mostly fat. Or maybe its the big fins.

He floated after awhile. That's why I kinda waited awhile before I flushed his tiny lifeless, bloated shell of a physical being down the toilet... Because I wanted to make sure he wasn't just sleeping and holding his breath...

I really liked that fish, He had a lot more personality, and fiestiness than any other fish I've ever had, but I did feed him premium freez-dried wormy worms, so maybe that gave him more energy. He was a great guy. I didn't think it would depress me that much, but it is sad to walk by and not have a fish doing tail spins when I glance over. Surprisingly I notice his absence more thna I thought I would.

God forbid what will happen when Mojo and/or Jojo die. I swear I'll have to take bereavement leave....
