Below is the opening of my latest column for “Conscious Choice”, on the extraterrestrial presence as explored in recent books by Steven Greer, who founded The Disclosure Project, and Richard Hoagland, who discovered the infamous “face” on Mars.

Hope you enjoy it.

Yours,
Daniel

“Alien Nation”

While writing my books, I discovered that I was able to keep an open (if skeptical) mind, while exploring subjects that make most people flinch, whether shamanism, psychedelics or crop circles. These days, I continue to find myself curious about ideas and possibilities that lie even further out on the fringe, partially because of personal experiences I have had, ranging from UFO sightings to inexplicable manifestations. I seem to go through a process in absorbing a new pattern of information, first entertaining it as a vaguely humorous possibility and then slowly acclimatizing myself to it with increasing seriousness.

Lately, two new books have been tantalizing my worldview, suggesting new vistas of possibility. The books are Steven Greer’s Hidden Knowledge, Forbidden Truth, and Dark Mission: The Secret History of the National Aeronautics and Space Administration by Richard Hoagland and Michael Bara. Both books discuss extraterrestrials, alien technology and secret government cover-ups, but from different angles. While Hoagland and Bara both offer the perspective that NASA is an occult organization that has concealed its findings of alien artifacts on the moon and elsewhere, Greer makes the case that there are numerous benevolent species of intelligent alien life, at a much higher stage of development than us, surrounding the Earth and ready to make contact when we are ready. Hoagland and Mara’s book is a weird, yet fascinating compendium of geometrical postulates and jarring details. Greer’s work, if true, is the best news that humanity has ever received.

Thanks for bringing this topic to light, Daniel.
Some comments on Greer and his Disclosure project.

Having researched the ET/UFO phenomena for about 10 years and Greer's project for about 4 years now, I advice to be careful with Steven Greer's work. It seems that the "Disclosure Project" actually distracts from what is really going on, especially in regards to the intentions of the "visitors" . Greer's "naive" thinking (or deliberate as a Disinfo agent?) of trying to get Disclosure through congress and the government does not make much sense in many ways. Many of the ET/UFO researchers seem to have uncovered quite a different picture Greer is trying to paint. And I agree in many ways. His project seems to get a lot of hype these days.

The UFO/ET field is a big swamp with much disinformation and it is not easy to get a clear picture, separating truth form lies. It does take some work. Especially in the new age arena the image of our "space brothers and sisters", who are here to embrace/help us in the "shift", seems to be very popular and Greer's project certainly is promoted by many people because of the "assumption" that the "visitors" can only be good and benevolent. All this is mostly based on wishful thinking (including the assumption that technological advanced races equals spiritually evolved) but not based on a more objective assessment of what is actually going on looking at the research that is out there.

Here an excerpt from a blog I recently put together:

[...]

Then there is the DISCLOSURE PROJECT, under the guidance of Steven Greer, which also reveals the Government/Military Involvement of the UFO/ET issue. More about it here (including the infamous National Press Club Press Conference in 2001): www.disclosureproject.org

At first the Disclosure Project seems to be a very good source and has a somewhat more serious image than your average UFO site. I have followed the DP since 2003 and my view about them has shifted over the years, considering other material that shows a different picture than Mr. Greer is showing us.
While there is some very valid information and good material presented by the DP with a very "ideal" objective of making Disclosure of the UFO phenomena happening through Congress, it also has proven to show some mis/dis-information, in particluar in regards to the intention of the "visitors", which Greer says about :"There is no evidence that ET visitors and UFO's have done any harm". Well, I wouldn't be so sure about that.

As written by Guy Malone in "The Universal Seduction":

"The Disclosure Project is a grassroots campaign led by Dr Steven M. Greer. It's stated "topline" goal is to petition and legitimately pressure Congress and all US. Gov't officials to fully disclose to the American public "the facts about UFOs (and) extraterrestrial intelligence ..." Certainly an admirable goal, and one that we both share and encourage. The website (nearing 6 million hits in 6 months) further raises the issue of an unconstitutional "Shadow Government" which is keeping these truths hidden both from the world at large, and the legitimate, elected government of the United States. Dr. Greer has successfully encouraged dozens of former military officials to publicly testify to the reality of the UFO Phenomenon. In and of itself, this is an admirable work, for which Greer and company are to be commended.
(Note - Astronaut Edgar Mitchell and UFO video photographer Jason Leigh have both come forward to ask Dr. Greer to stop using their names and material unscrupulously).
However, there are certain problems with the lesser-known but equally sought after goals of the Disclosure Project, which hide (in plain sight) behind the noble "topline" pursuit of Disclosure, which should raise concerns. Namely, the seeming religious zeal with which Dr. Greer promotes the "Intergalactic Community" we are supposedly being invited to join, and also, the call for a disarmament of humanity's weaponry before we enter space (or in the words of the Dicslosure Project homepage "To enact legislation which will ban all space-based weapons.")

Whether knowingly (as either a disinformation agent, or as a closet cult-leader) or unknowingly, by attaching these very distinct and separate issues to the noble goals of the Disclosure Project, Dr. Greer is unfortunately playing all of us right into the hands of the very Shadow Government he warns of.

These other non-essential (to Disclosure) pursuits are built upon a single faulty premise - that UFOs are not ever harmful. It is simply unreasonable to believe that, as a noted ufologist, Dr. Greer has never heard of these or simliar reports [showing a non-benevolent nature of UFO/ET interaction]. However, too much of the UFO community simply ignores all such reports in favor of either an undeserved loyalty to the ufonauts, or a hidden agenda - political, spiritual and/or financial. Promotion of UFO beings as benevolent (without regard to the destruction left in their wake) and the ideal of a peaceful "Intergalactic Community" is the hallmark only of uninformed researchers, well-informed disinformation agents, New Age acolytes and UFO cult leaders.

Intelligent people however cannot allow a starry-eyed view of the reality of UFOs to cause us to roll over and merely assume they ALL are - or always will be - friendly and beneficial to humanity. All we really know so far from Dr. Greer and others' efforts is that these entities exist, and that they seem to offer us shiny cool stuff in exchange for just a little territory. However, our own checkered human history of initial European relations with Native American Indians should be enough to teach us the folly of repeating this path (i.e., "Today's Manhattan Island is tomorrow's Manhattan Project!")

As to credibility, the allegedly peaceful nature of the majority of aliens, and indeed the very existence of some "Galactic Brotherhood" that's out there ( and now supposedly inviting us to join their ranks), are to date mainly promoted by groups (some say cults) like The Raelian Religion www.rael.org, The Nibiruan Council www.nibiruancouncil.com, and The Urantia Foundation www.urantia.org [as wall as the Galactic Federation of Light paoweb.com]. We need only to study these popular group's contradicting positions on the physical location ("homeworld") and current goals of these so-called "Federations" to see that something is seriously amiss with a blind acceptance of Dr. Greer's claims of the same. Nuts-and-bolts scientists, government officials, credible UFO Researchers and especially Disclosure Project supporters need to ask where does he draw his information from, and is it the same or any more verifiable than any of these groups? Is he using the scientific eye-witness credibility of the project to advance one of these groups' philosophies, or some similar agenda?" - end of excerpt

A very interesting phenomena which most New Agers and supporters of the "benevolent alien scenario" seem to completley miss, ignore or deny is the issue of Abdcutions. For the lay man who has never looked into it seriously, it may be a topic to make fun of, cracking jokes about 'anal probing' and such but anyone who has ever researched that field (which is well documented) know that the truth is not very pleasant.
Some people think that Abductions are hallucinations caused by the Brain(Pineal Gland) release of DMT, a psychoactive substance which seems to induce alien-abduction scenarios. Dr. Rick Strassman and many Terence McKenna followers subscribe to that explanation.
However, just basing all abdcutions on this (in)-voluntary release of DMT is quite short-sighted and ignorant when looking at the foundings of some real reserachers in the abduction field. Having smoked DMT myself, I can attest of some alien interaction in hyperspace (mostly of a 'reptilian" kind), however, we're talking about physical evidence of abdcutions (incld. removed implants), where the "Pineal Gland" theory just doesn't hold ground.
Some abductions are are not that obvious and can only be re-traced through hypnosis, as the aliens seem to have an ability to mind-control their victim, erase memory, etc, with technology that makes ours look like the Stone Age.
Other abductions can be reported fully conscious and there seem many similaritites between the various stories of abductuees, independently, showing a rather grim picture.

The most famous Alien figure is the Grey Alien, little sized beings with a big head and big/slit black eyes. "Offcial Culurre" has done an amazing job in portraying the alien/UFO phenomena as science fiction, mostly as it is portrayed through media and entertainment. Some people believe that the typical grey alien image comes from the movies, however the reality of the situation is that this image has been around for a long time before it ever entered the mainstream. As a matter of fact, the aliens in Spielberg's "Close Encounters of the Third Kind" were adopted from abduction reports.

A great researcher in the Abduction field has been Karla Turner. Ph.D., a former college instructor who held a doctorate in Old English Studies from the University of North Texas, Turner had authored three books on the abduction phenomenon, *Into the Fringe (1992), *Taken (1994), and, with Ted Rice, *Masquerade of Angels (1994).
Dr. Karla Turner died of cancer on January 10, 1996, after being threatened for her work. She was just 48. Since then, several other people involved in UFO investigation have also experienced threats followed by highly unusual cancers.
For an interesting biography of her life and work go here: www.karlaturner.org/articles...logy.html
To audiences around the country she listed what she considered to be the only "facts" that might be construed about the alien invaders:

* We do not know with any certainty what they are.
* At least some of the aliens lie.
* During encounters, they control our perceptions.
* They can implant false memories.
* What we report about them is what they want us to report.
* The alien agenda has physical aims and procedures that have nothing to do with reproduction.
* From childhood, they manipulate us physically, spiritually, and sexually.
* They create virtual reality scenarios that are absolutely real to the abductees. See Masquerade of Angels www.karlaturner.org/Karla%20...ngels.pdf for this "cosmic deception scenario"
* They show an extraordinary interest in human souls and in our thoughts.
* There is some element of human involvement in UFO phenomenon.

For more info on here, her work as well as articles of other researchers and free downloads of her books, go here:
www.karlaturner.org
Make sure to watch the 4-part lecture on her site for more detailed insight.
Another noted researcher in that field would be David M. Jacobs, Ph.D., and the material presented in his book "The threat: Revealing the Secret Alien Agenda" www.amazon.com/gp/product...810-8639932
as well as "Higher Strangeness - The Truth about alien abductions and hyperdimensional beings" by Laura Knight-Jadczyk www.qfgpublishing.com/product_info.php from www.cassiopaea.org
A good little overview gives Jim Marrs ( author of "Crossfire: The Plot That Killed Kennedy (1989)", the book that Oliver Stone's film JFK was based on) in "Alien Agenda: Investigating the Extraterrestrial Presence Among Us" www.amazon.com/Alien-Agen...091-5969203

It seems that there is definitley a non-physical/hyperdimesnional aspect to it. As Tom Montalk wrote on his web site www.montalk.net/alien : "What we call "aliens" are hyperdimensional beings. They hide behind the veil of our perceptions and can project themselves into our visible reality at will."

There is still much to find out about this topic. This is just the beginning. However, one thing is for sure, there is already enough well researched material out there that shows and proves the reality of an Alien Agenda, which might not be quite what we have hoped for.
We need to get out of our habit of "romantisizing" anything that has to do with alien intelligent life forms according to wishful thinking nor deny it completley out of conditioned non-belief, nor buying into any fear but look at the situation as it IS, not what we like it do be or not to be. This means also growing up and becoming spiritually mature, being able to to look at the world as is IS (as Krishnamurti would say). Why would "good" and "benevolent" "aliens" take thousands of people each year against their free will? What are they REALLY here for and what is really going on? We need to get out of our "reality box" and look at the facts and reserach that is out there, from brave and brilliant minds who are here to help humanity wake up to the truth.

even though i've read a lot of occult and "conspiracy" books... crowley, bilderberg speculations, etc and many of the robert anton wilson type spin-off ideas... i have to admit my brain "shuts down" when i come across "alien agenda" material. not intentionally. it just seems so much less verifiable and therefore "wacky" to my current reality-tunnel... i entertain myself with the ideas put forth by david icke and joke that dick cheney is a lower fourth dimensional reptile trying to enslave the human race. and at times that seems to be the most plausible explanation available considering the otherwise rather insane seeming policies of the current administration.

it does seem like there is a push to fast-track martial law in the united states, to consolidate resources globally, and for the wealthy and powerful to brace themselves for some kind of showdown between the entitled few and the disenfranchised many. but to what end? with the massive damage being done to the biosphere to perpetuate the systems of wealth and power, i can't help but wonder where these "entitled few" think they'll be living after "they" wreak havoc and ruin upon the ecology of every formerly habitable place on earth.

perhaps the aliens are the only ones who can give us fresh insights. or perhaps we'll all go "astral" and have some kind of "ascension" experience to live in a "fifth world" that is currently beyond the frameworks of our minds to comprehend...

i do, at times, consider the idea that the butterfly is incomprehensible to the caterpillar and that we may still have some opportunity to transform into the beautiful butterfly that is our birthright and that this realization -- and the concept that it is better served by optimism and projections of our highest visions for the planet -- is at the heart of the lessons we are offered via psychedelics and other such tools of transformation.

To be informed of this subject is to be initiated to the conception of a distinct energy signature. From then, even open to the direct experience with the extraterrestrial/cosmic/ higher consciousness. Telepathy is the immediate form of communication, they meet you half way and you can subtly feel that relationship of otherness.
