about me
the short version: i'm currently owned by two cats.
the much longer and more pretentious "official bio":
After dancing to a set spun by Daniel Djang, a fan remarked that "his music sounds like it started on the other end of the universe five million years ago and is just getting here." As a DJ, Daniel refuses to be confined to the limits of just one genre, and his ability to mix seamlessly between house, tech-house, progressive, breaks, and techno in the span of a single set never fails to keep the dancefloor locked in to his unique sound.
Daniel's involvement in the Los Angeles underground dance scene began when he was a member of Good Vibe Crew, helping throw such legendary events as "OZ" and "Neverland." These parties featured thousands of partiers dancing to world-class DJ talent such as Adam Beyer, Cari Lekebusch, Christian Smith, Christopher Lawrence, DJ Ant, Joel Mull, John Kelley, Robert Armani and Selway, among many others.
His love for the music soon led Daniel beyond promoting and into DJing. His early DJ gigs (under the name “Alien:D”) earned him a reputation as a talent to watch and quickly resulted in a residency with the Technoholics crew. Daniel soon gained a following spinning at their "Techtonics" parties as well as other raves and one-offs. Daniel is currently a resident DJ and integral member of Qoöl Los Angeles, the sister club to Jondi and Spesh's legendary Qoöl in San Francisco. Daniel is also a founding member of the EPOCHSound collective, which has gained a considerable reputation for its memorable EPOCH parties. He is also a resident with OURSGathering, the legendary outdoor tribe from which EPOCHSound originated. During his career, Daniel has shared the decks with Jondi & Spesh, Christopher Lawrence, Gabriel & Dresden, DJ Rap, Damian Lazarus, Trent Cantrelle, Mike Hiratzka, Hisham Samawi, Dennis Rodgers, Moontribe, Osamu M, Nosmo (Grayarea), The Ripoff Artist, Gee Moore, DJ Pathaan, DJ Baba G, and many more.
Before Qoöl, Daniel (along with his fellow EPOCHSound DJs) held a residency at Habitual @ Club Sugar, a weekly event where he played alongside guest DJs such as Barry Jamieson of Evolution, Jonathan Lisle, and Taylor. 2004 proved to be breakthrough year, as Daniel became a monthly resident at Pure, Sugar’s infamous Saturday night weekly. In May 2004 Daniel played at the Mekka beach party in San Felipe, Mexico alongside Kazell and Audio Deluxe residents Andy Newland and Rob Duffy. In November 2004 Daniel headlined an event in Hong Kong called Technicolor @ Joint 15.
2005 saw Daniel's career rise to yet another level, as Qoöl Los Angeles launched in January. Later in the year, Qoöl would make its debut on Proton Radio, airing the first Wednesday of each month in the prime slot following the Artist of the Week mix. In addition to his weekly gigs at Qoöl, Daniel (alongside his Shanghai Noon partner Michael Scot) played his first gig at WMC in Miami. Shanghai Noon subsequently made several well-regarded appearances at Spundae LA. In June, Daniel played a rare downtempo/experimental set at the first annual LA Artfest. In September, Daniel had the honor of playing the closing set at Sööperqoöl in Qoöl SF, followed the same night by a tagteam session at Satellite with Scott Carrelli and Andy Newland. As 2005 drew to a close, Daniel made guest appearances at Shocker and Blowfish, closing out the year with VISCERAL, an EPOCHSound / Qoöl LA New Year's Eve loft party in downtown L.A. 2006 is shaping up to be another strong year for Daniel, with the re-launch of Qoöl LA, another Qoöl night at Spundae LA, a return visit to SF, and a DJ tour of Japan in the works.
Though he is known for his live sets, Daniel invests serious time and effort into his studio mixes. As a result, Daniel’s promo mixes have aired across the U.S. and around the world on outlets such as DanceBBS Radio, Eccentric Beats, Energy Radio (Miami), The Fresh Page (Canada), Metromix Radio (New York), Proton Radio, Studiocam, TranZFusion (Australia), Vinylbeats, and Xpander FM (Ireland).
Daniel's neverending search for music, new and old, is the basis for his DJing style: a potent combination of cutting-edge taste in music, an extensive music collection, an innate ability to read the dancefloor vibe, a classically-trained musician’s ear, and flawless mixing that stands out in the increasingly crowded DJ landscape.
