My Blog

names are just words

I'm just going to gently raise a little issue here over Tribe names. First, I concur, nothing I ever do seems to end up "gentle." Second, I already know that friends of mine on here that I won't have even considered in this little diatribe will write me with their feelings hurt because they happened to pick word names that don't confuse or annoy me. So there's my disclaimer.

So everyone knows the Abbot and Costello "who's on first" right? And just lately in the movie Rush hour 3 with Jackie Chan and Chris Tucker, there's a who are yu and mi skit...

Detective James Carter: I'll be asking the questions old man. Who are you?
Dojo Master: Yu.
Carter: No not me you!
Dojo: Yes I'm Yu!
Carter: Are you deaf?
Dojor: No Yu is blind!
Carter: I'm not blind, you blind
Dojo: That is what I just said.
Carter: You just said what?
Dojo: I did not say what, I said Yu.
Carter: That's what I'm asking you!
Dojo: And Yu is answering.
Carter: Shutup!
Carter: You!
Dojo: Yes?
Carter: Not You, Him! What's Your name?
Dojo Student: Mi.
Carter: Yes You!
Dojo Student: I'm Mi.
Dojo: He's Mi and I'm Yu.
Carter: And I'm about to whoop your old ass man because I am sick of playing games!

But why on god's Earth would you want to purposely confuse people and make your name something like "Whoop Ass" or "Sweet Smell," or "What For?"

There's even a Bite Me. What the? What is the thinking behind that? I know this girl, she's a teacher; she's all nice and everything, but then her handle is Bite Me. I've never seen anyone get mad at her before...

It might not be much before a new Abbot and costello skit is born:

Who said California needs better math teachers?
Bite Me.
Excuse me?
I said, Bite me.
What did I do?
You asked who said California needs better math teachers.
And you have to be Bitchy?
I'm not Bitchy, I'm Asking What For?
I don't know.
Don't know what?
What You're Asking.
What about her?
Who?
What You're Asking?
I'm not asking anything!
Nobody said you were!
