Went to Town Hall in Seattle last night and heard Jonah Lehrer, who's written a book called How We Decide. It's about the neural mechanisms that supply rationality, emotionality, and shoves in one direction or another when we need to make decisions. His main theme is metacognition, or thinking about how we think, so we can apply the proper strategy to making decisions. He's brilliant, funny, cute (though married) scienceblogs.com/cortex/ and is well worth seeing if he comes to your town. He's in Portland tonight and his schedule is on the blog. Time well spent!
