about me
There are several of me rattling around in here, dancing point and counterpoint, and sometimes I feel as if I am falling apart from my own inner diversity.
I am a performing artist and teacher, playing with fire and objects and music to help myself and the audience remember "Why" in a world of "What". I found poi in 2006, and it has led to other forms of object manipulation, and completely changed me in many ways. I see possibilities where once I saw despair. I move where once I was immobilized. I have realized that all the truth I need is in the dance. I am the doting father of five spectacular people. The immensity of my responsibility overwhelms me sometimes, but I try to remember I'm just one guy, doing the best I can. The bittersweet ballad of our lives together sings in my soul every day, though I am not with them every day. My dream of a healthier, happier human experience revolves around my wishes for them. I am a community founder, currently working on finding land for a startup intentional community in West Virginia. My dissatisfaction with the choices available in our wasteful, unhealthy, selfish culture moves me to create community. I want to leverage the abundant natural capital of Appalachia to build a place where my family of families can strive, thrive, and survive these changing times. I am a Mad One, suffering many of the symptoms associated with bipolar disorder. I do not desire a diagnosis, as I find those words unhelpful in managing my condition. Fortunately, I never wanted to be "normal", whatever that is. I see my experience as both positive and negative, and I do not use pharmaceuticals to manage my moods. I live in them, recognize them, and do my best to ride the HIGH waves for all they are worth, utilize the _low_ waves for introspection and quiet time. I am jackrabbit on: theicarusproject.net I am a software developer, but this is on the bottom of my list of MEs because I have not been excited about my work in a long time. I hope to put these skills to good use one day soon.

That's what Amanda Baggs says about the autistic, and for someone who's supposedly "retarded" she makes a very eloquent case for autism as a different perspective instead of a "disease".

For my youtube junkie friends: www.youtube.com/watch Wired article, long but worth the read: www.wired.com/medtech/hea...03/ff_autism When I look at the scientific approach to mental divergence, I can't help but think something is missing. Are all of these "... read more

# Madical Radness Collective (MRC) # Radical Mental Health in Richmond! # Mission, Vision, and Values ########################## Who we are --- We are people who have been diagnosed, or somehow identify with, mental illness. We welcome all who resonate with madness, regardless of whether they have received a medical diagnosis. We reject the disease concept of mental illness, as we've observed positive aspects of our condition. Our "symptoms" often create ... read more
