Generations of life in California have given this artist a strong foundation from which to let my spirit and imagination grow freely. Adding my generation of a mere forty years, I grew up an hour away from Los Angeles in the little town of Piru. To bring my childhood into even more of a focus, it was spent on an ancestral ranch eight miles from the small town. From this total emersion in nature I was able to find my "voice" both musically and artistically.
I began to draw seriously at eighteen, when I realized how powerful one voice could be. I started out by reproducing vintage family photographs, this passion to capture the emotion and the energy of moments in time, first real and eventually imagined, would evolve into two major interests. The first is the jazz age of the 1920's/1930's. This incorporated my love of music, caracature and character development. The second is the world of myth and fantasy. This offered a spectrum of creative possibilities, illustration, story and character development, costuming and subsequently photography.
To bring cosmic order to the creative chaos I created my interpretation of a universaly hierarchy. This would help me understand and illustrate this ever evolving universe, taking my inspiration from the ancient civilizations ability to represent the elements of their world using the imagery and characteristics of all things human, animal, and all other forms of natural life (before monotheism and science made this creative approach to the universe obsolete).
I've lived in Los Angeles for fifteen years and of course have experienced other aspects of life. But at the core of all that I am is the simple truth of the "nature boy" seeking to make the natural, supernatural, the mortal, immortal and leaving a set of energetic footprints on the universal landscape.
