Darshan, it's a fabulous dvd. I learned so much from it, and it was wonderful to see different ways tribal fusion dancers perform and interpret music, and the dvd identified the main nuance and vocabulary of tribal fusion dance, which is absolutely vital.
Now I can understand how and why dancers such as yourself, Rachel Brice, Sharon Kihara, Mardi, Elizabeth Strong, Donna Mejia and others dance in this style and how wonderfully different in presentation you all are. I like the breaking down of the sections into Modern Tribal, Tribalesque (my favourite bit!!) and world fusions. Your teaching technique is very patient- you repeat a lot and sound out directions. Your feeling and passion for this dance really comes through. I also loved your performance too, very fluid, understated, strong and sensual. It's got me practising and drilling with a passion. It offers for me, a whole set of moves , technique and art. Rachel Brice's DVD is great, but I found I was at a bit of a loss for developing the vocabulary- the only down side here. Both yours and Rachel's dvd could be used together to enhance one's own style. I also think tribal fusion drills and technique can be an excellent training ground for cabaret/modern oriental strength training, since many of those tribal fusion moves seem to have that tight Egyptian feel or even Turkic quality to them. THANK YOU, Darshan, for a very useful teaching dvd. xxx Maureen |
