A Glimpse of the Long Path: Your GWP

If it's anything like my GWPs (great works in progress), then it may take longer than you've kind of envisioned--like an onion: layers of depth--for you to be ready to present your creation. Maybe not! But if so, as long as the path leading up to it is acceptable for you and even enjoyable, then guess what! How we spend our hours is how we spend our days is how we spend our lives... there are thousands of ways to kneel and kiss the ground; nay, millions of ways... what with cosmic expansion and all... indeed, billions and billions of ways to kneel and blah blah blah. Ta-dum! Welcome to your life. I guess we have to consider two aspects of our direction, those of us who have chosen a passion for artistic expression as our main guide in life: career and personal work. Yes, they do cross over, inshallah--but on the one hand if you want to have this work support you now, then you must prepare it in a time-efficient manner. On the other hand, if this is going to be one of your major life works, then it may take longer to give it its full voice, and you may need to start or continue other projects to pay the bills. As for the grand visions, feed them with faith and action and lucid dreams and patience and fire. Offer joyfully to them all the work that seems to have no other purpose: the dances that are not seen; the long treks and difficult days; the song heard only by sea and sky...

borrowed from Ln's profile (of Barcelona)(Thank you Ln!):

"You’re a star—and so am I. I’m a genius—and so are you. Your success encourages my brilliance, and my charisma enhances your power. Your victory doesn’t require my defeat, and vice versa. Those are the rules in the New World—quite unlike the rules in the Old World, where zero-sum games are the norm, and only one of us can win each time we play.

In the New World, you don’t have to tone down or apologize for your prowess, because you love it when other people shine. You exult in your own excellence without regarding it as a sign of inherent superiority. As you ripen more and more of your latent aptitude, you inspire the rest of us to claim our own idiosyncratic magnificence."

I look in some of these faces and see such a vast sadness and loneliness; even looking within I see this potential for desolation. Part of the cycle of life includes times full of these. I see that it can be so painful and confusing to be human; we really must be so gentle with each other--especially the confused ones who don't know how to act. But everyone, including ourselves. If we set the unconscious default to compassion, kindness and patience, then more often than not we will be the angel that inspires a turn in someone's path, and this way of kindness can reverberate through time and space. It's not always easy...

I just came out of the forest this evening and I feel so grounded and simple and present. I feel really in tune with what's real; living in the city I think we can get caught up in so many of the constructs of society that become irrelevant in the deep forest. I was out there for a week so I felt the withdrawal symptoms from things like my laptop and cell phone, late night distractions, and what people think of me. Once the withdrawals wore off, I was left so simple and so large and true within myself. Let me recommend a dip in the freezing cold river just down from the mountain, and a deep breath of fog from between the trees out in the Old. Then tell me who you think you are.

So simply, this is the mantra of the place I had brunch today. It really was a haven. As soon as I stepped inside, everything slowed down. they brought me warm chai; I sniffed it but waited a while to sip. It's their international vegetarian buffet that brought me there today, and while everything was so lovely--banana pakoras, shepherds pie, couscous, hummous wraps, curry--it was the bowl of carefully sliced celery that really took me there. It looked so artfully placed, like someone had sliced it up with the greatest care just for me, or for its own sake, and I was honored to have a couple of pieces on the salad. It brought me to a place of presence with my food, like with a lover... you make sure you are present at any moment, not spacing out for any length of time and missing the appreciation of a subtlety, a nuance, a pleasure. Such depth it adds. Treat your food like God, like the Beloved, and it makes it easy to treat everything that way, deepening your experience, aligning your harmony with the universe.

It is time to gather your power around you, be in contact with your ancestors and allies, shed petty differences and move confidently along the path... at this stage we may encounter some resistance. We must gather strength and compassion in our vision, a sharpness of the eye like an eagle; we act from a place of peace and plenty, and in our own shadow we find ourselves prepared for conflict with the highest level of integrity... may we never find the need...
