Me... according to Western Astrology...

Name: David Sanders
August 27 1953
7:22 PM Time Zone is PDT
Montebello, CA

Rising Sign is in 04 Degrees Pisces
Very sensitive to your surroundings, other people's feelings become your feelings. Try to avoid negative people because your tendency to empathize with them will make you negative also. An idealist, you must believe in something beyond your normal everyday existence. A dreamer, you like to escape to a world of your own creation. As such, you are known for the vividness of your imagination and should try to share your inner visions with others. Very self-sacrificial by nature, beware of others becoming overly dependent on you or vice versa. Allow yourself to live for yourself once in a while -- you deserve it. Don't be so envious of those who are more aggressive than you -- your gentle charity and true humility are indeed wonderful gifts. on the tenth house cusp (MIDHEAVEN).

Sun is in 04 Degrees Virgo.
Extremely careful and cautious by nature, you value neatness and order above all else. You rigorously practice very high standards of living and conduct and you demand the same of everyone with whom you come into contact. At times, you are so supercritical that you are merely nit-picky. You are very good at practical skills and quite handy with tools of all kinds. You are also greatly concerned with hygiene, cleanliness and personal health problems. Very likely your health is much better than you think it is -- don't worry so much! Extremely methodical and analytical, you are a perfectionist -- this makes you the perfect person to carry out highly detailed, precise operations. But, at times, you pay so much attention to details that you lose sight of the larger issues.

Moon is in 20 Degrees Aries.
High-spirited and courageous, you are a fighter when your emotions are aroused. The degree of force and drive that you can bring to any effort sometimes surprises others. You have hair-trigger reactions to specific stimuli and tend to "let it all hang out." You sometimes act before you think and do things on the spur of the moment, and that sometimes gets you into trouble. Your moods change quickly -- you have quite a temper, but you don't hold grudges. Very independent, with an extremely strong and forceful personality, you are known for being impulsive, careless, reckless, foolhardy, rash and daring.

Mercury is in 24 Degrees Leo.
You are usually quite convinced that your own ideas are correct and you enjoy persuading others that they are. At times, you are very stubborn and proud of your beliefs and principles, and you get very defensive when they are challenged. You appreciate truth and honesty -- you practice it yourself and expect it in others. You have good talent for organizing, directing and planning. You delight in being asked for your advice and counsel.

Venus is in 27 Degrees Cancer.
You like to be very close to other people. You need emotional support yourself and are willing to give it to others. When you feel unloved and insecure, you can be very jealous and possessive. You are not interested in casual or superficial relationships -- only deep emotional involvements interest you. Your faithful devotion is one of your greatest gifts, but be careful not to become too dependent on others. Learn to stand on your own two feet and demand your own rights once in a while.

Mars is in 18 Degrees Leo.
You are a very proud person. Strong, bold, courageous and self-possessed, you love to be the one to initiate significant actions. When people expect a lot of you, you respond positively and will work hard in order to maintain their respect. But when your dignity or pride is threatened, you tend to become sarcastic, arrogant and domineering. Try not to take any challenge or resistance that you meet as a personal affront. You are very stubborn about your right to live your life according to your own principles.

Jupiter is in 22 Degrees Gemini.
You have a logical, detached, objective view of most things. Your interests are wide-ranging and you are an avid student, with expertise in many different areas. You love to work things out in your mind -- everything you do is reduced to an exercise in logic and reason. You have the ability to grasp abstractions and to deal successfully with the larger issues of life. Your overemphasis on developing your powerful intellect can cause your emotional and intuitive abilities to atrophy unless you consciously choose to exercise them.

Saturn is in 23 Degrees Libra.
Although you take quite a while to make decisions, you usually consider all sides to a question, all the pros and cons, and the solution you come up with is very often the correct one. You tend to be very reserved and shy, but, once you make a commitment to someone (in either a business or personal relationship), the partnership is forever. You have a strong sense of justice and fair play and greatly respect the laws and institutions by which you are governed. As such, you are outraged when others break laws or show contempt for authority.

Uranus is in 21 Degrees Cancer.
For you, and for your peers as well, the demand to be free from entangling emotional bonds is of paramount importance. You have a unique and unfettered view of family life and will be attracted to experimenting with freeform styles of relationship commitments. This may lead to a rootless, unsettled lifestyle.

Neptune is in 21 Degrees Libra.
You, and your entire generation, idealize all of the various experimental approaches to relationships -- including "living together", the formation of communes and collectives and the whole concept of "open" marriages. There is a stress on weakened commitments on an emotional and contractual level, but there are heightened expectations of the level of commitment and mutual support on the spiritual and metaphysical level.

Pluto is in 23 Degrees Leo.
For your entire generation, this is a time when the relationship of the individual to society as a whole is being thoroughly re-examined. Major attempts will be made to find a balance between the need to be self-sufficient and the need to honor debts of social commitment.

N. Node is in 02 Degrees Aquarius.
As long as someone else (or a group or organization) appeals to your intellectual sensibilities, you'll try to ally yourself with them in some way. You may find that you always seem to get involved with many wide-ranging groups -- so much so that you find it difficult to fit them all into your busy schedule. Your many friends and acquaintances provide you with needed stimulation. You're loyal and fair-minded -- you try to spend time equally with all your friends, never concentrating on just one or two for any length of time. Although probably quite conservative yourself, you're attracted to those who are a bit offbeat or eccentric -- you enjoy watching their minds work.

Where did the time go?
Visited and stayed with my friend and dancer Matt, then at another friends, Jefferson, fellow massage therapist and architect, then an overnight at a new friends rooftop cottage, and back to Berkeley to Ari's. Daily visits to the gym and hiking the hills of Berkeley (photo).

This form of travel takes quite a bit of time online, figuring out next stops and travel arrangements.

Departed Berkeley in a car, a rideshare with a guy I met online on Craigslist, he had just helped his girlfriend move to SF and was on his way back to Seattle, looking for riders that would share gas.

July 23-30
Flew from Juneau to San Francisco, then BART to Berkeley. Met at the BART station by friend and fellow yogi, Tyler Blank. Taken to Ari's house for the night, where we were joined by Jennifer, another of the AcroYoga participants. We were all meeting up to drive up to Yosemite to retreat and practice a combination of acrobatics, partner yoga and Thai massage.

Spent the first day shopping in SF and Berkeley, wool socks and chocolate. Began our drive late in the day and arrived in Yosemite campground after dark. Spent the first night in a designated campground, sleeping under the stars. How far away the bears were, I have no idea.

Next day, my friends and I hiked in to the site where we would camp and practice the AcroYoga. It is an amazing site about 6 miles in and down, across the valley from Half Dome, see attached photo.

July 22-23
En route to SFO to join in with the AcroYogis for a week in Yosemite, I had another overnight in Juneau, the capital city of Alaska. An oddity really, the only thing keeping Juneau alive is the fact that its the capital city. It seems to live in constant threat of having that status taken away from it by another city, say Anchorage perhaps, and having its economy collapse.

Having only two night there, one on the way in and one on the way out does not make me an expert, but I did read the entire section in the Lonely Planet guide, so I'm not alone in my thoughts here.

In any case, I used Juneau as my first opportunity to use the Couchsurfing.com website. I had arranged ahead of time to have a couch to surf of some perfect strangers, Wesley Hill and his roommate Jamie. They could not have been more perfect. My hosts were getting off work at the time my ship pulled in, so they came to pick me up from the ferry terminal, in a slick bright blue Audi. He and she were both upbeat attractive college-age kids that work Juneau for the summer.

They took me back to their place, which turns out to be the gathering place for their group of friends. Wes, originally from Texas, turns out to be quite a good chef, so on the topic of dinner I offer to provide groceries in exchange for his cooking. Fettuccine Alfredo made from scratch.
Jamie had a headache from the days' work so I offered a massage which seemed to do the trick.
I has a bottle of vodka left from my Skagway adventure, so I pulled it out and made cocktails for the growing crowd. Yet to arrive was the other roommate, screenname kayakinghippie, and his twin brother. They were out hiking the local glacier till dark (early this far south, dark around 11PM). We played a perverted version of Scrabble, called Snatch, where you make words from the tiles, but not on the board, then other players can take your word if they can add to it and make a new word. After I lost horribly at that game they put on Napoleon Dynamite, which to everyones amazement, I had not seen. They were citing lines along wit the film, apparently a cult classic.
The twins and girlfriend partied till pretty late, I retired not long after Wes, on a very comfy air mattress. In the morning my hosts, who worked at the airport, took me in with them at the time I needed to check in for my flight to SFO. Sweet people and a great time out of the box.
