Exactamundo!
That is such a spectacular picture. I agree with you, this is hardly the land of the free. People are repeating what they've been told, and have been fooled into thinking everything's just fine. They live in the default world - that one where the rules and the system have been around so long that people don't question them.
I'm torn between wanting to escape and find someplace like New Zealand or Costa Rica or some other exotic and remote spot, and trying to affect change in the default world... ~Trilo~ |

When We Change IT!!
I'm with you SISTA! I completely agree that communities here have lost what Burning Man has come to offer - true connection, giving and participation!! I have a small group of friends that I have spoken with about creating an intentional community in NoCal. It won't be for another 5 years or so, but I really would love to make this happen. A place where we are not dependent upon the grid to survive, including work. A community where we care for and learn from each other's children and parents. A place where we share what we have when we can and work as a team in addition to working for our own interests. A place where everyone has their own space but a true community center where we can come together to share what we have created as a group. A completely self-sustaining community. I look forward to the day that I am no longer working to live. It's not an easy life to raise your own food, make your own clothes and build your own home. But the rewards from doing so are complete freedom to do what you want. We have these lives where we work our asses off to create enough time to take off and do what we want. Most of the time that work is not something we truly enjoy. Why not just get rid of the unfulfilling work and work on creating a life that supports what you really want to do. This is all a bit idealistic, I know. And I guess it sounds a bit communist, but I think it wouldn't be that way. I'd like to think that this is possible on some level. I often think that the restrictions on and increasing cost of building here might make it impossible to get a community like the one I have in mind together. So maybe another country is the way to go.
