Sleeping in the Nude
Sun, January 7, 2007 - 11:31 AMAnyway, I find I often have to sleep in the nude. I can go to bed with pjs or a nightgown on but, I usually end up naked by morning. I either take them off in my sleep or wake up uncomfortable a couple times and eventually peel them off with as little movement as possible so as to not disturb my sleepyhead condition, which I hate to get out of. Then it takes longer to go back to sleep.
Pajama bottoms are probably the worst even though they keep you the warmest. Sometimes that's the problem-too hot. No, I don't keep the heat up that high. We usually turn it off at night altogether. Generally, it's that the waistband is bugging or the legs bunch up around your knees. Ugg.
With tops it's the same but, at the elbows. All that constriction and bunching is uncomfortable. Forget about anything with a hoodie-though I love them in out of bed times or a collar. I don't care how cute it is. Constriction or poking material around the neck when you want to sleep-torture.
So, I'm thinking that maybe this is not only a habit that my body is used to but, also that sleeping without clothes at least a good part of the time is better for your health. Less constriction to blood flow and circulatory system. So, you can truly rest and recover the body at night. Also, if you're getting good rest versus poor quality sleep all or most of your life, we all know you will be healthier overall and live longer.
Comments: Please share similar experiences or feelings about pjs versus birthday suit AND/OR scientific studies about health/quality of life in sleeping in the nude. Would like some quality discussion.

Nude Sleeping...
...used to do it with a girlfriend. Tried to, at least. The way my place is organized, it's hard to keep my room warm in the winter and I tend to need to stay warm.
I usually wear a shirt and sweats-I'd love to sleep nude again, but I'd need somebody to do it with. |

It's better for your health to sleep in a colder room, not freezing cold but a too warm room is not good for you. I turn my heat off and the temp in the morning between 58 and 62. I often leave the bathroom window open for circulation.
If your bedding is warm, then you sleep well and you can sleep in the nude. I love flannel sheets in the winter. The thicker weight ones, 5.4 or 6 oz, are really soft and cozy and warm. When you get into bed the sheets are warm not cold. I like covers that do not weigh a lot like down. Since you keep taking you pj's off in your sleep, I would say go to bed nude. Just set up your bedding so you are warm enough. I love my bed with it's pressure sensitive foam topper that helps your muscles relax and so you sleep better and my flannel sheets and I have a silk comforter that is thin and lighweight but very warm. A friend has regular sheets and comforters and I do not sleep well in his bed at all, I can feel the weight of his cover on my body and I am cold because of the sheets. |

Heavy covers
I agree that heavier is less comfortable. Used to pile tons of blanket son me in college when I had no money for PG&E bills. They were so heavy I woke up with sore muscles sometimes.

Sometimes I do need a long sleeve shirt when it's cold. It still bugs me sometimes where I don't need it.
What I REALLY need is those tops dancers use. They are kind of like a wrap with sleeves. They just go across the top of your back and over your arms. I used to dance but, don't even know where to get the,-At a reasonable price. Think I looked once online and found them for like $30! For part of a shirt? How much do they charge you for the whole thing? |

I have always preferred to sleep nude ;-)
It is only natural to remove clothing while sleeping. This let's the body rest from the burden of clothing which blocks air flow, limits movement and binds the body limiting blood flow.

Sleeping alone I like PJ bottoms and a t-shirt top.
With GF, I like to be nude. In any case, I like to wear socks. Hate cold toes. |

my boyfriend always wears socks! I never do. When I have been sick or very cold and was mostly asleep, he has slipped socks onto my feet to keep me warm. It's sweet :)

NO SOCKS
I hate socks, its the 1st thing a take off....feet are so sexy why hide them? And I sleep in the nude, its just to uncomfortable with clothes on. If I do wear clothes i just wake up so many times during the night, when im nude i sleep well all night.

I prefer nude... there is just something very free and natural about it. I have never understood the need to go to bed with clothing on... modesty in bed?? However, I do find that wearing something loose can be sort of fun. There is something sort of exciting about feeling half dressed in bed... the difference in textures... the feeling of it slipping across your body. This is definitely true when sharing a bed with a woman. There is something warm and intimate about getting tangled up together like that... hands over or under soft silk... pressed together... ok... gotta stop typing now... ;-)

I sleep in the nude because it is less confining and I like the feel of the sheets and my girlfriend against my bare skin.

I'm a nudist anyway. My days off are spent around the house naked, wishing it wasn't against the law to go walking around the park across the street in the beautiful sunlight. Even my backyard gets a little close to "civilization", apparently. *grin*
Sleeping? Clothes are definitely too hot and too constricting. And the feel of skin on skin as you drift in and out of dreams is a wonderful sensation. |

I almost always take my socks off.
I agree with you about wanting something on my shoulders, they can get cold if the covers are not tight around them. I have gotten two frozen shoulders and beleive me you do not want a frozen shoulder. My physical therapist said to always keep my shoulders warm to prevent another one. Sounds kind of like an old wives tale to me but I do try to keep my shoulders warm so I agree with you about some kind of dancer's thing around the upper back, shoulders and upper arms maybe. The other part of me that gets cold is my wrists when I am reading in bed. I have nice fuzzy wrist warmers for that. I often sleep in a flannel animal print top with red and pink flowers on it. |

Nude sleeping
I didn't know that anyone still made pajamas for men. And I thought nightgowns or negligees were just to have something that could be tossed on the floor.

I don't know how long I haven't worn PJ's. Age at least,
Not having a PJ its quiet difficult to go to a PJ party. I like to sleep au natural, Dependent on the temperature I may wear a T-shirt on top. Sometimes I leave also my briefs on, but usually it ends up being taken off during the night as it becomes uncomfortable. Depending on the situation if I am sleeping over after a party at other peoples places I mostly leave my brief's on to keep decency. |

I've slept nude most of my adult life - if I have to wear clothes to bed, I usually don't sleep well.

Sleeping in the Nude
Sleep-suit or Birthday-suit. No contest, in my humble opinion. Thanks to a set of very enlightened parents, who themselves were committed nude sleepers, my sister and I were brought up to regard the latter as the only acceptable form of nightwear. Once we were reliably dry at night, we were strongly encouraged to go to bed with nothing on. Not that we needed much encouragement - what 3-year-old would willingly pass up the opportunity to legitimately, and with parental encouragement, spend nearly half of each 24 hours stark naked!

Shrugs! They're called shrugs!
The warm up little "half sweaters" that dancers wear. Finally used my brain and looked it up. May get a couple. One for yoga and one for sleeping, if it's comfortable enough. Lately, I've just been burrowing under the covers.
