Interweaving culture with superior dance skill, Amani is in great demand as a performer and "rising star" instructor. Ms. Jabril is best known for her fluid and deeply sensual style of dance along with her creative sense of character and drama. From a very early age, she was trained inBallet and Jazz as well as studying Theatre. However, Amani found her true passion in the art of Oriental Dance. Since that time, she has studied (and performs) various dances from around the Middle East and the World. Dynamic Performance Amani performs regularly in the Atlanta area in addition to a number of special dance events around the United States, Europe and the Middle East. She has been seen on CNN International and has performed for notable dignitaries and celebrities. “Sensational!” - The Creative Spark “You could sense the passion she felt for what she was doing…Nothing short of classic! 5 stars!” – Raqs International (Atlanta) A dynamic choreographer and engaging performer, Amani offers a wide variety of dance styles. Amani employs a multifaceted approach of performing, teaching, and writing about the fascinating dances and people of the Middle East while focusing on the unique experiences of immigrant groups in the United States. Complementing her dance career, Ms. Jabril holds an M.A. in Cultural Anthropology (Middle East) and has taught at the university level. She currently works with the Middle East Institute at Georgia State University. In addition, Amani has lent her knowledge of dance and culture as advisor to the Georgia State University Dance Ensemble. She was extremely proud to be one of ten dance professionals selected to participate in the “First Cairo Seminar with Mahmoud Reda and Farida Fahmy for Teachers and Professional Dancers” held in Cairo, Egypt. Committed to the study and advocacy of world dance and folk cultures, Amani has created and directs An Evening in the Harem and Mezza. An Evening in the Harem was created to showcase the best and brightest "up and coming" performers and teachers in the Southeastern United States. Mezza was created to engage the general public in learning and discussion about the Middle East through various forms of art from the region. Events have included performances of local Middle Eastern artists as well as workshop with highly acclaimed guest artists. Some artists have included Karim Nagi Mohammed (Turbo Tabla) and Helene Eriksen. For more information about this year's events, check out the calendar page. Hello everyone! I just wanted to send out a reminder for Amani’s advanced seminar. This month, Amani will be exploring “Liquid Hips” i.e. playing with weight placement and adding muscle and breathing to the movement. Please remember that is a seminar geared towards the more advanced or professional dancer. Next month will be focused on a folkloric topic. Space is limited, so pre-registration is highly recommended.
